Morning all! Where is everyone?!

Mindees and dd already playing the garden (I'm on the laptop!).

Quick question...

Would it be wrong of me to take on new mindees knowing that I'm pregnant? Only planning on taking a couple of months maternity leave. Is it unethical?

No not at all I have had a couple of enquiries since finding out I am pregnant and I have been up front and told them. One hung up on me so I took that as a no! and one signed up with me I only intend on taking off a couple of weeks and their child is an after schoolie so they didn't see it as a problem of course I explained that if things don't go to plan in delivery I might have to have longer off but they were fine. Definitely not unethical imo I even have some lined up to start in Sept and they know that the start date may change due to my delivery date (25th Aug)Have you had many enquiries and for what ages don't forget your new lo will count in your numbers!

Good morning

SB, go for it, as long as you are upfront I don't see a problem.

OO - good to see you

Just one mindee this week, v quiet but will be madness from June - August when I will have 4 under 5 (Ofsted willing) then a new baby starting when 2 leave (boo hoo)

Have a good day y'all

southernbelle77 · 07/05/2008 10:16

You see thats the problem! I am only 7 weeks so do not want to tell anyone yet. It is for under 5's so will be more of a problem I envisage. I don't know what to do. If I don't tell them I feel that I am being dishonest, but on the other hand, it is still a very new pregnancy and anything could happen, hence me not wanting to tell them.

Oh and the numbers won't be affected, because by the time the baby comes along, dd will be at school full time so will count as an over 5.

Get you, yes I can see that you would not want to say anything until you are further along.

Hopefully some of the other PG Cms will be along in a bit with their input.

No help at all, was I ?

Hi Sb I had really bad ms for first 19 weeks and didn't want to tell any parents until after week 12 as have had a mc before. Used to have to wait until drop off or pick up to run to bathroom and be ill! I did have one person ring while I was still in my 'secret stage' and I told them that my dh and I were trying for a baby and would hopefully be pg in the next month or so, that way they knew that maternity leave was very likely to happen in the next year and I knew that if anything didn't go quite right this time the mum would be none the wiser. Does that make sence?

crace · 07/05/2008 16:48

Sorry SB - but yes, I think it's fine. I took on a couple people in the early stages and as it happened they left later anyway for their own reasons. Just be upfront and honest. I just wouldn't hide the fact. OO's plan of the "ttc" is a good one!

OO - that sounds like a small nightmare. poor you!

OFSTEDoutstanding · 07/05/2008 18:33

It was a nightmare but parents were great when I told them I was pg the only one that seemed to have a problem was an afterschoolie that is term time only thought it would cause her problems in the holidays, I did point out that as a term time only contract she wasn't entitled to holiday cover and that was made very clear when she signed and said she didn't need me in holidays.
The people that rang never signed up with me and luckily the other enquiries were after the 12 week mark!
