Hi there. I have been in nanny job 2 years and need to write a resignation letter.

Never done it before and unsure what to include. Do I need to put reasons for leaving or just give notice stating last working day etc. Is it best to give reason for leaving ie 'another position has been offered to me that is better suited for me' or is it best not to let on I have got anything new yet? Not sure I could hide it anyway.

Feel so nervous about handing it in but at the end of the day my new job is better for my family life. thanks

No you don't need to give reasons for leaving, if you don't wish to. You can purely make it very business like and just give notice of your intention to leave (stating the notice period as specified in your employment contract).
However the family may appreciate knowing a reason.
Aim to be on good terms with them, so you get a glowing reference for future use.
I know how you are feeling, I had a very similar issue a few weeks back when I had to write a letter of resignation, due to moving on to another job.

I think it's nice to put 'thank you for the enjoyable time I've spent working with you etc' - That's what I put when resigning! That's from ordinary jobs though not nannying - and of course it does depend on whether you have found it enjoyable!

Thanks for that. As a nanny I think I take it on board that I need to consider them all the time but at the end of the day I have to do what is right for me and my family. If the shoe was on the other foot they would not hesitate. I know that but I still get all stressed and tomorrow will be a nightmare.

I have enjoyed my job but they have made a few situations hard with their attitude. I have been their 1st nanny so they may learn a few things. I will miss the children and would love to keep in contact. So I think I will put something along those lines at the end. Make it professional but also make it personal because as nannynick says 'Aim to be on good terms'

Just say something like

I am handing in my notice and as stated in contract giving you x weeks/months notice thus making my last working day with your family x.

I am sad to be leaving but due to family commitments I have a found another job which suits me better.

I have really enjoyed my time with you, and I hope we can keep in contact.

Hope all goes well today mumnannymum

Thanks everyone

Went well. She was gutted and wanted to know what she could do to change my mind. Too late. But it went as well as can be expected. I feel better and looking forward to new job in 3 weeks
