Is this true?
How does it work?
Can my childminder be used for this?

only a acreditted CM, can draw down the Nursery Grant for 2.5 hours a day, 33 weeks of the yeasr (the same as a nursery).

You can only claim it the term after your child is 3.

Does that help?

WhatDidIComeUpHereFor · 04/05/2008 15:49

And I can spell honest

Cnt type for buggery tho

tryingtocookacurry · 04/05/2008 15:53

So, my dd goes to childminder monday and wednesday 8-4 She is 3 this month!
She has already started rising 3's at the local family centre from 1-3 on wednesday and Friday afternoons. I pay my child minder on a wednesday when she is at nursery, but she could claim this money then could she??

You need to check with the CM whether she can claim it. It's not the same as being a registered CM. If the thing at the family centre is a preschool, then they will probably be able to claim it.

tryingtocookacurry · 04/05/2008 15:55

sorry, did that make sense?
I meant, I pay my childminder whilst dd is at family centre on the wednesday, but could we claim some money?

Being that dd only has 4 hours at family centre, could I get some free funding for my childminder to have her?

I still don't know if I am making sense?

TheFallenMadonna · 04/05/2008 15:56

Because it's not offically for childcare. It's for nursery education.

tryingtocookacurry · 04/05/2008 15:57

Okay. I will ask her if she can claim this then. Thanks

No ONLY a accredited CM can claim it. You will get it for her at the nursery tho. It is not for Childcare ONLY for under 5 Education.

tryingtocookacurry · 04/05/2008 16:00

so she would have to be an accredited childminder in preschool education then. I am presuming not all childminders have this then. She has an nvq level 3 - is that enough?

No a acceditted CM is something different again.

Will find policy on it .BRB.

WhatDidIComeUpHereFor · 04/05/2008 16:04

Ok this explains it

WhatDidIComeUpHereFor · 04/05/2008 16:06

This is my explaination in my handbook for parents.

Accredited Childminders

Accredited childminders have joined the Dorset and Poole Network, monitored every half term by the NCMA and the Department of Education. These childminders have to conform to the National Curriculum, for over 3 year olds, and may claim the Government Pre school grant of 2 ½ hours a day 38 weeks a year, for parents.

LIZS · 04/05/2008 16:10

CM has to be approved by the LEA for you to be able to claim it. The 2 sessions at the Family Centre would also count. Your child becoems eligible from the term after they trun 3, so September in your case and the funding applies during termtime weeks only. This may help clarify.

tryingtocookacurry · 04/05/2008 16:22

Thank you for helping.

In September, she starts preschool anyway, every morning from 9-11:30. Which will be great. Won't do me any real favours though, cos still have to pay childminder whilst she is there.

But I do understand why, as she can't get another child within this two and a half hour slot. I am presuming this is normal.

LIZS · 04/05/2008 16:25

ah , in which case that will be your 5 2 1/2 hour sessions.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/05/2008 16:26

Yep. Your five sessions will be at preschool.

tryingtocookacurry · 04/05/2008 16:27

yes, I was just wondering if I could get any more help before that.
Just a wild shot in the dark, as my child tax credit has been dropped £200 a month, was just wondering if I could save anything.

Sorry!

I spend a fair bit of time telling parents that they can't claim until next term ...

HappyMummyOfOne · 05/05/2008 15:40

The grant is for early learning not for general childcare.
