Is childminding a possibility for me.

After having a bit a career crisis I have had had an epiphany of sorts that prehaps I could go into childminding. I currently work in a family care based roll within a charity but my dream has always been to work from home.

Reasons I believe might help, I have a full enhanced DBS check, I’m a qualified nursery nurse, my children are all teenagers, we live in quite big house with 3 reception areas and a huge garden..

Things I’m not sure if would be helpful. I don’t drive, our house while big is military accommodation and we have a dog (Labrador)

Can anyone tell me if this something that could work or am i completely fooling myself. I wondered also if it’s possible to start a childminding business with someone else.

Any advice would really be much appreciated

Yes absolutely, you'll need to start from scratch like everyone else (like a new home based dbs) but there's nothing there that is off putting.

Do the terms of your accommodation allow you to run a business from home?

Re not driving - what can you get to in walking distance and would you do school age children or only pre schoolers?

I would start here. There's no point pursuing it if you're not allowed to!

We have a military Base near us and childminding is allowed, as is council and housing association homes. You will just need written confirmation for ofsted.

Start by contacting your local authority early years dept.

It’s definitely walkable to the local primary school but it is hilly and quite a big walk for little legs so would likely stick to preschoolers in the 1st instance.

It’s also the age group (other than my own children) where I have most experience.
