Im trying to become a childminder and I know that Ofsted requires an emergency contact within my accident and emergency policy. My problem is that I don't have anyone I can use and was wondering if there's another way round this or if any other childminder has this problem and how to solve it

There must be someone you know who will be contacted in the event of your death surely?

I really don’t I’m new to the area, a single mum and family live 2 hours away

mitogoshigg · 31/12/2024 16:24

Do you know any other child minders? How close do they need to be, is 2 hours ok?

Does it stipulate that the emergency contact has to live close to you?
In what circumstances is Ofsted expecting to have to contact your emergency contact?

Is this for an agency ?
Dont join an agency they will take all your money - it’s easy to register with Ofsted and get support from PACEY or Childminding UK.
I don’t think Ofsted ask for an emergency contact ? But my husband , other close relatives are my contacts.
My emergency contacts are on my phone , they are not nearby during the day when childminding .
I do have local childminder friends who would assist with children , while waiting for parents to collect, if I became suddenly ill .
Otherwise in a car accident for example the police would sort out .

I would recommend making contact with other local childminders. They can offer you support and may be able to send you referrals. In our area there is such a shortage of childcare .

I presume what they are actually looking for is more of an emergency procedure. So if you are injured during the day what happens to the children until their parents can collect them. Normally this would be another childminder who would look after them and their own for the emergency period of time.

Do you know your neighbours, friends at school etc....it is a contact number in case something happens to you and someone needs to wait with children until collected. In the long term get to know local childminders

It would have to be someone who is DBS checked would it it?

Ideally yes but in a genuine your being carted off to hospital dying emergency no . Parents should be contactable and have their own emergency procedure in case their child is ill so your emergency contact would be watching children whilst they are on their way for their children and you are still in the children's sight.
