Hi All,

I am just after some advice as I am very confused with childcare atm. I currently claim UC as I have a 2 year old and do not work because I could not afford childcare. I have a joint claim with my husband who works full time.

I am soon to start a new job, with a supply teaching agency which is obviously a 0 hour contract and was wondering if someone was able to do some rough calculations for me if possible please.

I will post below a breakdown of what I currently claim:

Husband earns: 2,085.60
Take-home pay: 776.93

Standard allowance (couples) : 617.60
Support for 1 child: 287.92
617.60 + 287.92 = 905.52

905.52 - 776.93 = UC gives us 128.59 a month

My question is when I return to work part time i will be earning on average £960 a month, before tax, national insurance and pension, i pay approx £45 pension a month. May I add, the £960 may be less a month depending on if I even get consistent work, so this is just an average. childcare costs for 1 month would be £588.

Taking into consideration the above current claim, when I start working, would I be eligible to be getting any of the childcare paid for or not?

Thank you IA!

Rough calculations your wages might wipe out any childcare element you get. On 960 you shouldn't pay tax and UC doesn't take into account pension.

I wonder if your wages will wipe out your UC claim? If that is the case they won't help out with childcare costs. Someone can come along and do a calculation but I feel £900 wage will wipe out your UC. Check out the Facebook groups though. They are very good.

You will get 15 hours funded childcare though if you earn more than £182 per week.

Apply on Childcare Choices for the 15 hours funded.

Yes i am eligible for that, the £588 childcare is excluding the 15 funded hours

I’m hoping to work full time, so the £588 would be for 3 days a week, 15 hours would be 2, so a full working week x
