Need a temp nanny for my twin boys, West London - please help, what should I pay?!

Title says it all really - I need to find a temp nanny (live-out) for 3-4 weeks in June and July to look after my twins who will be 10 months old. I have no idea really how much I should be offering or how to go about finding a nice nanny. Also, how does th ewhole tax/NI thing work - do I pay that on top of wages or does the nanny usually deal with that side of things?

Any info / advice gratefully received - am desperate to get something sorted before everyone is booked up!

Hi

I work in Ealing as a temp nanny/ maternity nanny, solely because I only temp I am self employed. Usually though nannies can't be self employed so the employer has to sort the tax and NI. No idea on the rules for temps though (always been self employed as a temp) Im sure Nick will know....

I know quite a few temps around West London so feel free to email me your job decription and I will forward it to anyone who may be suitable.

Kind Regards
Daisy

NI, Employees NI and Employers NI would need to be paid on top of the nannies NET wage. It is therefore always advisable to agree a Gross Wage. I would have thought live-out rates to be £10-£12 per hour, Gross. So £100-£150 per day, depending on how many hours you are wanting. As you have twins, you may want someone who has experience of caring for twins, that could increase cost a bit. I'd say that if you factor a day costing £150 including taxes, then that would be about right.

HRMC - Register as an Employer and P49 will help with understanding Tax and NI.

If you end up employing a Student, then this is worth a read.
