Advice on options for after-school care

Hi, I am looking for someone to pick up a 2.5yo from pre-school and 4.5 yo from school (same site) 2 days a week and mind them till about 5pm 2 days a week. There is no after school club.

Would a registered childminder be the only option? Just wondering if I could also think about a local baby-sitter or nanny-share type of thing?

Thanks

Hi

I am a nanny who does this. or another mum perhaps?

Thanks for the reply, I am new to the area so dont really know any of the other mums properly yet. Do you know if I found another mum or local babysitter willing to do it, are there any legal/tax issues with paying someone? Any idea how I would find a potential nannyshare?

What part of the country are you in? Prices vary depending where you are

I'm in the south east. I think local childminders are approx £3.50 ph/pc, so £7 ph for 2. I think there are none with availability though (according to LEA website) so was thinking of an alternative at about the same cost.

Im in Croydon and you would get a nanny/babysitter in this area for £7 an hour.

You would ave to declare a nannies earnings, but because they would be earning under the tax threashold you wouldnt have to pay it.

Im not sure about NI

this is def what cm's can do! try ringing some as they may not have updated their vacancies, or may have the two days you need free. as for another mum, you can't pay them if they take your children to their house (i think, pretty sure!). a nanny would work as its your home the children are in. best bet is to call a few cm's! where are you exactly?

Thanks for the replies. We are in Oxfordshire. I will try calling the childminders listed on the website in case they have spots.
