Oh glory be. Oh happy day. Everyone who said it's better to keep looking til you find the right person was right!

Have been looking since Feb, everyone on here has been so helpful with all my queries and listened to all my waaaaaahhh-ing.

We interviewed two last week, one who was really nice, liked her a lot but she gave some really suspect answers and said some things, the other one was really nice, seemed very professional, very keen and gave great answers. We had her back to meet DS, he loved her (normally very wary of strangers at first), and it's all systems go!

And she can give me the bit of flexibility I need, and will be able to increase her hours in a couple of months if I need it as well.

Hoorah!

Hurrah!
Glad you've found one at last!

ok a few examples of what she said..

When asked what activities she would do with a child DS's age (11mo) she said 'go to the park, and otherwise play on the floor'

She asked what routine he is in. DS is in a routine although he's fairly adaptable if you need to bend it, or go out or whatever, so we said that. She made some very disparaging remarks about routines and some very faces about a previous family whose babies had been in a 3 hourly feeding routine, as if that was really weird.

She asked whether the pay would be weekly or monthly. We said monthly and she looked all and and then was all full of how she'd never been paid monthly in all of her jobs, ooh dear, would have to budget, that's tricky, what day of the month would it be .

When asked why she was interested in this job she said because it's only one child and she can just sit on the floor and play all day

Reasons for leaving current job were a bit hazy on the details I had so I asked her to clarify. She gave a very enigmatic answer about a letter her employers had sent her during her maternity leave (which she is still on) saying some things she wasn't happy about. Of course that immediately set me thinking that her employers had said non-complimentary things about her...

She was very disparaging about CRB checks. I'm sure that's a perfectly valid opinion but surely not one you express in an interview...?

Just a few examples! It was a shame because I actually really liked her and warmed to her as a person, but really, one or two dodgy answers you could overlook but you can't ignore all that!

Anyway, I'm happy now, we've got a lovely nanny!

Yay glad you found a nanny, especially one your little one has warmed to straight away :D

unknownrebelbang · 25/04/2008 23:11

I knew this would be your thread!

Well done. Hope it all works out well.

Blueskythinker · 25/04/2008 23:41

Well done. Am very

imananny · 26/04/2008 09:24

i would ring her ex employer for a reference - though guess no point as you know have found a nice one.

she obviously sounds a lazy nanny, if all she wants to do is sit on bum all day and leave your child to play.

CRB are good, but as soon as you have one they can be out of date

most jobs pay monthly

hope all goes well with new nanny
