Taking holiday as PAYE/Adhoc Worker Query - 30 hours Childcare

Hi,

TLDR: I am unable to work from 2nd Dec - 12th Jan due to placement, holiday and schools being shut and then exams. Will I lose my funding entitlement for the next term?

Wondering if somebody can help. I was employed part time (but worked extra hours overtime so basically worked full time from March) till September 2024, and started studying full time in September but also manage to work 16 hours per week.

My 3yo has received his 30 hours entitlement for this term. I was just reconfirming and then came across the question about whether I will earn £183 for the next 3 months. I have a placement at the start of December where I will not be earning, and then going on a 2 week holiday and then Christmas kicks in so schools & universities are closed for 2 weeks. Therefore, I will not be working for a total of 6 weeks.

I will definitely be working 16 hours again from the 13th January. Does this mean I will now not be entitled to claim the 30 hours & tax free childcare for next term? I will definitely be working 16 hours again from the 13th January for the rest of the academic year. I have long placements in June again but will not affect my childcare hours I believe as DS will be starting school in Sept.

I hope nobody thinks I am being entitled etc as I have read on other posts. Just trying to get my head around it as can not find a clear answer.

Depends on how much you earn. The £183 per week is an average so if you can not work thise weeks but still average that amount in the qualifying period then yes it's fine. If you won't then the answer is no.

Do you not get holiday pay?

The holiday pay and sick pay is averaged into my daily pay. Similar to working for a teaching supply agency.

Can the following apply to me, where it says you work throughout the year but do not have a regular income, so average over the tax year? Or this only for Self Employed? What category does PAYE/Contractor fall under?

As there are some weeks in the academic year where I don’t have lectures or placements and so pick up more days as well as hours through the week. Thus some weeks like during December will be nothing but other weeks are 20+ hours…

Thanks in advance

How much will you earn over the next 3 months?

Mid November - £1200
Mid December - Probably £800
Mid January - nothing as I won’t have worked through December..

Is that gross or net?

£2000/13 weeks = £153 per week. So not enough, unless (potentially) those are net amounts.

Can’t do an annual calculation from your figs but if you add up April to March and divide by 52 you’ll get the average.

1415isgreat · 28/10/2024 19:00

They are net amounts.

@ThatIsNotMyNameSoWhyAreYouCallingMeThat Okay thank you. So is that just adding the pre tax amount on each of my pay slips from what I already received from April 24 and then what I expect to receive till March 25?

I apologise if I sound dopey, I am just not clued on with things like this 😭

What are the gross amounts?
