OK looking sporadically since really want one for September but if we found a good one we would take her/him from now.
Looking on gumtree but very little choice most recently one e-mailed me a no and the other still hasn't replied!!
Don't really want an agency. Is May a bad time? Should I be looking in July and will there be more then?
Ideally we'd like an Aussie/Kiwi etc but there seem to be none of them, am I right in thinking there are all mega bucks?

Just value your opinion/thoughts please

Whereabouts are you and what are your exact requirements? May help to know. What about nanny job or bestbear websites?

AtheneNoctua · 21/04/2008 22:47

If you look for someone in July, there will definitely be a lot more around. Especially if you want someone for a 12 month tour of duty.

REmind me how old your kids are? Location? Full time? Live-in?

hatwoman · 21/04/2008 22:56

try nannyjob. and if you're in London try Simply Childcare. google them and you'll find them.

imananny · 21/04/2008 23:00

and always worth putting an ad on netmums childcare section - unless you def want a foreign one - netmums you can pinpoint area by county
there is also www.greatcare.com

AtheneNoctua · 21/04/2008 23:09

How about this one?

1dilemma · 23/04/2008 22:54

Oh Guys thanks very much really helpful and terribly rude of me to disappear off my own thread!

I did wonder whether it was the time of year.
You have given me some really useful ideas

AN the one you highlighted looks great.

We are in S London, live out unfortunately I can barely afford to put a roof over my head let alone anyone elses! dcs 18 months to 6.5 either full or part time.I think I will just keep looking at a low level and step it up in July if still nothing. I just had visions of it all being terribly quiet over the Summer

I'm in South London too. I would recommend Simply Childcare as hatwoman said.

anyoneoutthere · 24/04/2008 10:52

I am a nanny in South London who only is looking for part time work. I think a lot of nannies are

AtheneNoctua · 24/04/2008 15:08

Did I read that wrong or did you just say that you are looking for live-out for cost reasons? If I got that right, I think you might want to crunch the numbers again because live in is way cheaper.

hatwoman · 24/04/2008 18:07

on the face of it yes it's cheaper. but not when you take into account the fact that you need a house with at least an extra bedroom and preferably an extra bathroom...

AtheneNoctua · 24/04/2008 18:27

But, if she already has the house, then the money is already spent so might as well put it towards the childcare bill.

hatwoman · 24/04/2008 19:45

I'm guessing from "I can barely afford to put a roof over my head let alone anyone elses" that she doesn;t have the required extra space

AtheneNoctua · 25/04/2008 08:20

Of course, but as there is an element of guessing, I thought may she could clarify if she really can't squeeze a live in arrangement. Sometime people say they don't have room, but if you explore the situation they could atually free up a room by say putting two children into one room.

And, of course, maybe she well and truly has no room. I just thought it was worth asking.

imananny · 25/04/2008 08:53

does your work use vouchers?if so then employing a nanny who is registered( cost to you £100) will make huge savings and really help with paying a nannies wages

there is a set amount each parent can claim(if there is a dad around?) - dont want to assume there is?

Think it is around £242 a month - sure nick could clarify the amount - this is what my friend told me,she got paid in vouchers each month
