Hello 😇

Im new here so hoping I have done this all correctly. I am looking for advice around the 85% UC entitlement for childcare.

I have been on UC now for 2 years, last week I got a job and went into full time employment 37.5 hours a week.

At the moment I am eligible for £1,200.20 a month in Universal credit. I am a lone parent to my little one and he lives with me full time. Once I start work on a full time basis, I will receive £1,630 a month in wages. Alongside £102 in child benefit, this is my only income. The nursery is £1,060 a month which is cheap for my area, so I should be entitled to roughly £905.

His first week was covered by the Support Fund and thats all fine, it is just the 85% I need help with.

I have tried the benefits calculators however they don't seem to work, they give me around £3,000 which just isn't right at all. I keep asking my job centre and they are about as useful as a concrete parachute. So I'm rather worried about it all. Im mostly worried I'll be eligible for nothing and will be finding myself in debt not being able to pay, but I am sure its all worry in my head.

Whats everyones experience with this? Are they likely to deduct from it? Will I have to find the funding separately? or do they pay the 85% back in full without deductions?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

I don’t claim it anymore as my daughter is older but you have to pay the amount up front and then submit an invoice via your portal and UC pay the 85% in the following months money.
