15 hour funding v 30 hours

My youngest just started nursery & gets the new 15 hours funding for 9 mo. My 3 year old goes to the same nursery and gets 30 hours funding now. They both go full time term-time only. I just got the bills and the difference between them is £31! How can 30 hours only be worth £31 a month?!!!! They waffled at me about funding hours and said they aren’t allowed to disclose the funding allocated but seriously: does this seem right??? Not to mention the £11 a day each for their food… I mean £11 for a 10 month old?!!

So if a nursery charges £7ph (for example) and the funded rate is £5ph (for example) who pays the £2ph shortfall? A lot of nursery's are barely covering costs as it is, I don't know how people think they can just suck up these kind of losses.

Don't get me wrong, it's crap and the cost should be funded properly but that's a government issue not a nursery issue.

It’s the nursery’s issue I’m afraid and the governments doing. Certainly not the op’s. They can’t just charge her incorrectly to make up the difference.
Other nursery’s seem to up the prices for the unfunded hours.

I was told by my nursery the 9 month plus funding includes meals, the 2 years plus funding doesn't so i'd question this too. i've had my bill for sept for my 12 month and the 9 month funding works out as 1 free day per month but no extra charge for meals.

You can get them to run it through their computer - what does a baby cost with and without funding for full time, same for a toddler, what is the sibling discount and the cost with or without that?

How can it be one free day a month if you are receiving 15 hours funding? Even in a stretched model it would be more than that

@BetFreda this is what my nursery sent out. tbf i've heard from a few in the area that they are doing it the same

Ok, that’s right then - one day a week.
You said one day a month.

As a side note 15 hours a week spread over 51 weeks is 11 hours a week . You should be asking them what are they doing with the other hour. If they are not claiming it from the LA, all is fine but if they are, they need to be delivering that to you.

BetFreda · 01/09/2024 11:57

To be clear:
15 funded hours x 38 weeks = 570 hours a year
570 hours/51 weeks = 11 hours a week

10 hours a week x 51 week = 510 hours a year
If they are claiming the extra hours they should be letting you have them.

No funding includes meals but they may choose not to charge for it especially for Los who eat less and they get paid a higher rate for.
