Child care needed 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off ... ideas please!

A friend of mine (honest!) has been offered a job she would love with an airline. The only trouble is, she is a single parent and would need child care for her 7yr old DD. This would be 2 weeks on/ 2 weeks off every month. The weeks she is working, the hours could be any between 6am and 6pm every day.

What kind of childcare arrangements might there be for this?
Or is this a complete non-starter of a job for her?!

She may have to pay full-time for the weeks whether or not she uses the care tbh

It would be hard for the childminder to fill the '2 weeks off' so she would lose money

She might find someone who wasn't living on the money they earnt - or someone who would charge only a retainer for the hours she didn't use

She might be able to find a childminder - I would actually quite like to work hours like that so long as she didn't mind her dd having to accomodate a few trips to swimming lessons etc if they clashed days. It's worth looking, anyway. The worst that can happen is that people say no.
Don't suppose she's on the east coast of scotland?

I would work this as long her dd attended the school that I collect from. So I would say just to ring around and check.

I knew a nanny who worked for airline crew and worked off the shift pattern given to her in advance - including staying overnight- obviously a full time job for her but seemed to work fine for them.

Great, thanks for so many quick responses!

Friend lives within M25, so thanks for the offer FromGirders, but not this time!

Beakysmum - I believe there is a Nanny Agency who specialises in supplying nannies for airline staff.

I don't know much about it but it may help.

beakysmum - where does your friend live within the M25? I live in Sunbury on Thames! and might be able to help either myself or know of another childminder that could

thanks Tulip31 that's really kind of you,

I think she would move closer to the airport if she were to take the job so I'm not sure where she'd be, butI will be back to ask for help again if need be.

Thanks again to everyone
