My DD (22 months) is at a wonderful little nursery 4 mornings a week. She goes for 3 or 4 hours in the morning.

She has a very strong bond with one of the workers and spends most of her time with this one lady who is amazing.

Often when I drop her off she clings on a little but as soon as she sees her favourite carer, she's off like a shot, happy as anything.

The other ladies are lovely too but she's just not got that same bond.

Anyway, the favourite lady told me the other day that she's leaving. I think she got made redundant to be honest.

I am so worried for my daughter. Surely this is so disturbing for her to have a huge bond with someone only for it to be taken away suddenly....

Will this have an effect on her? How can I help her feel more comfortable?

I feel really anxious about it.

Unfortunately that’s life and part of the industry. (I am an Early Childhood Educator from another country)
My only advice is to be positive about the other staff and show your child that you are comfortable with them. If you make a massive song and dance about it your child will take her queues from you. Your child will move on and adapt to the new teachers. She will completely forget about the old teacher as well.

Why do you need to be anxious? staff change it is perfectly normal

I presume all the other kids cope so why would your child be any different?

You need to speak to your child's key worker about creating a bond with themselves or another member of staff. They need to support your dd to feel comfortable in nursery if this staff member isn't present

This has happened to my son recently with two of his who’s he’s been very close with since he started over a year ago as a baby.

He’s fine. To be honest it was me that missed them more than he has. Your daughter might settle differently with the other workers but she’ll still get over the initial change and carry on her day as normal.

If I’m being really “harsh” it’s a good lesson for her that things change.
