When I came in last night, our nanny said she was out with DS in the pushchair and a book she'd just bought either was taken or fell out at some point while they were in the park. She's only been with us a couple of weeks but she seems to have good judgment and strong character. She seemed to strongly hint that we should reimburse her the cost of the book, as if she hadn't been out with the pushchair it wouldn't have gotten lost.

Should we get her another one?

No.

Flum · 16/04/2008 13:49

ermmmm No! ever heard of a bag?

KaySamuels · 16/04/2008 13:49

No you shouldn't!!

WanderingTrolley · 16/04/2008 13:51

No.

Next she will lose her tiara and Coutt's cheque book.

If she can't look after her belongings she shouldn't be allowed out without a responsible adult.

TheFallenMadonna · 16/04/2008 13:51

LOL.

Er, no.

phraedd · 16/04/2008 13:54

no way

it was her book therefore she was responsible for it. Equally if she takes something of yours out of the house and it gets lost - she is responsible for that too.

cheeky girl!

mummypoppins · 16/04/2008 13:57

No. Not at all. Will she ask you to replace
DS if she loses him!

Im suprised she even told you!

mummydoc · 16/04/2008 13:57

why if she was out with your son did she take her book ?

crace · 16/04/2008 13:58

No!

chelseamummy · 16/04/2008 14:00

mummydoc - Public transport - she said it was during his nap...and to be fair she didn't technically ASK to replace the book, just was hinting around! Anyway, thanks girls!

Cheeky cow!!

No you should not pay for her book!!

Squiffy · 16/04/2008 16:38

hahahahahahaha.

I suspect you'd even get a laugh at that one over on the nannyjob boards (perhaps).

imananny · 16/04/2008 17:15

indeed you would - well i would laugh at it!!

susiecutiebananas · 16/04/2008 17:20

No, no and NO! her book is not your responsibility, with or without your son! ridiculous! absolutely not, NO

like someone else said, next it will be something else... her mobile phone, the car keys.. infact, a new car, because she lost the car keys when out looking after your son!

its her responsibility to look after your son, his belongings, her own belongings etc...

good grief. whatever next!

nannynick · 16/04/2008 18:20

Her book, her problem. If it was extremely valuable (in money sense, or in tricky to replace sense), why take it... and could she not claim via her nanny insurance.
Can't see how going on public transport makes a difference... should be keeping an eye on your DS, not reading a book (hope it was a child development book or something 'work' related).

RahRahRachel · 16/04/2008 18:26

If the baby was sleeping in a buggy while on public transport then I think reading a book is fine. Sometimes if my charge won't sleep in his cot in the afternoon I put him in his buggy and go to a cafe and read a book as he'll fall asleep while we're walking there (this was at his mum's suggestion btw!).

frannikin · 16/04/2008 22:32

No you shouldn't replace it! As nannynick says - suggest she claims it off her insurance.

imananny · 17/04/2008 09:44

Nothing wrong with reading while child is sleeping but there is no way a Mb should pay for personal belongings that the nanny lost while they were out.

I have never neeeded to claim on my insurance for anything (thankfully - child or belongings all safe ) but if you do, would you not need to pay an excess [rumages for paperwork] and would your insurance go up?

Prob either to spend £10/20 of your own money and replace the book

MrsWeasley · 17/04/2008 09:56

what was the book? Could she get it from the library to finish reading it?

imananny · 17/04/2008 10:00

or ebay Mrs W

MrsWeasley · 17/04/2008 10:03

Am I the only one reading this thread who keeps wondering what book it was?

imananny · 17/04/2008 10:04

me too - just beacuse I am nosey

RahRahRachel · 17/04/2008 10:48

Did the nanny actually ask for the book to be replaced though? I think chelseamummy has probably misinterpreted the situation.

MrsWeasley · 17/04/2008 10:50

chelseamummy please tell us the name of the book? I keep checking this thread to see if its been mentioned
