Kids in workplaces all summer instead of in proper childcare

I want to ask what people think about taking your child into your workplace every weekday of the long summer holidays? Even if your employer allows it, is it fair on the child? Is it fair on the colleagues, especially those that pay for childcare and arrange their time off to cover it?

Every day of the summer is way too much - it's meant to be a break for the kids to have fun! Obviously there are exceptions to this (e.g. working in a leisure centre and they are old enough to use the facilities and meet friends / work at a stables when child is hoprse mad and relishes helping out etc). I've only taken dd into work once. I can't remember the situation, she wasn't ill and we usually used a play scheme on my working days. She did have a nice day - I worked in a school so it was very quiet, a few teachers coming in who were obviously quite kid orientated. She coloured, watched an ipad, brought in some small toys. Was fine as a one off but wouldn't have worked as a regular thing.

I'm allowed to take my DD to work with me and I only take her if I really have to . My work colleagues love my dd . She's almost 11 so not like a small kid running around . She enjoys coming in with me . It's only a couple of hours and she gets stuck in and helps out . It's good work experience for her . She shows more initiative than some 18-20 year olds we have for work experience Grin .
I've even had some of her friends parents ask if I can take their kids into work with me seeing as I'm allowed to take mine ....obviously a flat out no and highly cheeky .

I do know a woman doing it this summer - but she works at a holiday club. Grin We can't possibly judged based on the OP alone - it's written to imply a 5yo in the office Mon-Fri 9-5, but there are lots of other possibilities.

Oh yes, several of the TAs at my son's school work on the holiday club, and they are allowed bring their children (who don't attend the school) without paying. I think they would find it impossible to staff it otherwise!
