Giving Notice - How is it best done?

As a nanny/housekeeper I have applied and accepted a new job. I now need to give my current employer notice. This will need to be done officially in writing, but do you think it should also be verbal... should I arrange to have a chat? What do you say in such a chat... "it's been great working for you the past x years, but I feel it's time to move on".
What do parents want to know... the important things like the last working date, but what else?
Anyone given notice to their nanny employer before, or been an employer who has received notice from their nanny?

verbal then written, to be courteous.

Any job where you give your notice, the employer can sometimes be a bit shirty after. Don't take it personally and if you're lucky it might not happen.

congrats on the new job!

I've given notice - I wrote the letter and handed it to them saying "I'm giving you my notice, really sorry to be leaving but.... Would love to stay in touch with the family and happy to help you find a replacement for me."

Admittedly my situation was different as I was going to uni and not another job but that's how I did it.

Thanks.
It is going to be so hard to give notice. Been there so long.

verbally and also a lettr

maybe ask if you can have a chat with them - without children around

say that you have enjoyed your time with the family, and you hope you can keep in touch, bs etc

when does the new job start? how much notice do you have to give?

How long were you there for?

good luck and hope new job goes well
