Me again! Do you know if training courses are compulsary when the EYFS comes into effect in September? will everyone have to go on a course to make sure we can implement the EYFS into our setting? All info ive found on it is very vague, I know that it will run along side the national standards but not sure if any there is more is involved for childminders other than to know what it entails and how to use it?

The course is complusory. You should be sent some info on how to book.

I had to go even though I only look after one baby for one day a week.

The course I went on was two Saturday mornings - all the longer courses are optional as far as I know. hth!

I know the course is compulsory, but I've only attended the introduction and the follow up courses are fully booked with no more courses in the near future!!

I was told at the introduction that as long as you have attended the introductory course and know how to implement certain things you should be fine

Yep! I'm booked on a 2 day course for it to try and help me understand

My Network Manager informed us that it would be good practice to go on the 4 course.

Also that we were to throw away the blue national Standards book, Birth to 3, and Foundation Stage in September as the EYFS replaces all of them.

oh right ok, thanx for your help, i better get booked on a course then as it sounds like places are hard to get.

I am booked onto a course in April 2009! As all other courses are fully booked around here!

I was on a course on Sat - it told me what was in the pack & that it was what we were doing already - but I had OFSTED here yesterday & they haven't been trained on it yet

Saz73 · 09/04/2008 09:04

I've only done part 1 of the course and all the other courses are now fully booked.

I panicked and sent my early years people, my local council, and got a email back saying that my registration is not dependent on the training and it's my responsiblity to get the training. So it doesn't say anywhere we have to do it just that we will be inspected against it and told to read the pack and understand it. And that local support groups will be doing mini training sessions.

ROSEgarden · 09/04/2008 09:07

Ofsted shouldnt be doing ANY inspectios till after sept as THEY are just being trained on it...TBH i can see a lot of inconsistencies in 'their' understanding and 'our' understanding when it all comes into effect..the course is urely hand outs and info..so essays, just putting things into practice!

erm. . i don't think it is compulsory.
i did a course on a saturday afternoon only for a couple of hours.
