Hi, does anyone know what Ofsted's procedures are when you move house? What I mean is do they have to come and do a house safety check at the new property before you can start minding again? We will be having some time off to move anyway and make the new house safe for minding but I didnt know whether you have to wait until they have come before you can start working again.

The rules changed, they can now issue you with a new certificate without visiting the new property, recognising that most experienced childminders are more than capable of taking the necessary safety measures.

They do still visit in some circumstances, more often I think for recently registered childminders, those who got a lower grade at last inspection or those who haven't had an inspection for some time.

my move was due within months of my inspection so Ofsted delayed the inspection until I had moved and came within the first week! They were wonderful and very understanding. The house was still in boxes so under things to do it said Unpack a very easy target to acheive.

I moved at the end of last year and they issued my new certificate just with me doing a comprehensive written risk assessment for them.

oh right, so that seems to be fairly straight forward then. Well I hope they dont turn up within the first week like they did for you MrsWeasley! I've been registered for 2 years now so by the time we move they may wait until my next inspection with any luck!

Our local Ofsted Office said to do a thorough risk assessment, but NOT to take on any new children until they had been out to look.
