CM CLUB:Can i have a bit of a brain storm with you about an enquiry i've just had?..pleeease

now ive just lost one mindee so ould do with filling the space.
Just had enquiry for 2 children, full time from 7.30am-6.30pm monday to friday..am very excited...BUT her eldest(4) goes to doff school from my dd and mindees and school is about 20 mins in other direction, however mum tells me there is a breakfast club i can take her eldest too from 8am, so i could take eldest to b.club then back down road with dd and mindees to our school..this is were probs start...i can get to b.club for 8.20 and make it to dd/mindees school for 8.40-8.50 but theh wed, thur fri(mon and tues i dont have any mindees through day just before and after schoolys)i have one(1yr) who i collect(on way home from school) 8.15, then another one(3yr) dropped off at 8.30(but is always late so normally 9am)..on the wed this is ok'ish as dd and mindee have to be at gym for 8am so could do the school run in reverset hat day and collect/meet mindees on way to new school..phew..you still with me..then friday i dont have the 1yr old, but have a diff 2yr old meaning 2 getting dropped off somewere between 8.30(the agreed time) and 9am(the actual normal drop off time)..throw into the mix picking new mindee up from new school at 11.15 then getting them fed(picnic methinks) and older mindee to our nursery for 12.30..AND THEN collect dd, mindee1(6)mindee 2 (5)mindee 3(2)mindee 4(10) whilst ive got older mindee(2) and new mindees (1 and 4).

parent pick ups will be(on the wed thur and fri) 2@4pm, 1@5pm, [email protected](wed and thur), 2@ 5.30(only 1 wed and thur) and [email protected].....
phew.......

well..obv the primary point is ratio's i 'could' ask ofsted for variation(their siblings but NOT siblings of exisitng children) but i doubt they'd go for it..'IF' they did, then getting from a to b on time is my next concern..BUT if i took out of the equation my older nursery mindee(dont know how land lies anyway so would be mad to pass up if he left in 4 weeks!), i would then only need variation for 1 new child....if you're atill with me i applaud you..so now you can decide on what i should do!..arrghhhhhhhhh

AND all this brain ache may not have beenr equired when she dicovers the fees would be almost £300 per week(and thats at a very good reduced rate being siblings), its 55 hours per week for 2 children..most cm's here charge £3.50 per hour full time i charge £3 and reduce for sib's..so what should i do?

if i let older mindee go(3 days at local nursery) i would lose almost £100 but with new family still earn £200 more than i am now?????????????????????????????????????

HELP!

Give it to me in simple terms. i.e.

Mindee 1 X hours (days of week)
Mindee 2 X hours (days of week) etc

New mindees etc, etc

See if that will sink in!

busymum1 · 07/04/2008 20:53

again in english please no only jokin do you have vacancy for both children as by sounds of it they both under 5 so you sound like you would have too many children as don't forget if nursery shut etc they will need their space

ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:00

dd= full time age 5(next week)
mindee 1(6)= mon - fri 7.30-9am then 3-4pm
mindee 2(5)= mon - fri 3-5pm
mindee 3(10)=mon - fri 3-5.30pm
mindee 4 (3)=wed - fri 8.30-4pm(at nursery 12.30-3pm)
mindee 5(2) = Fri only 8.30 - 5.30pm
mindee 6(1) = Wed & Thur 8.15-5.15pm

new mindees (possibly!)
n.mindee 1(4) mon - fri 7.30 - 6.30pm
n.mindee 2 (1) mon - fri 7.30 - 6.30pm

is that easier?, no matter which way I looka t it its not easier!

Yeah BM1, i think ofsted would give me variation for one of them, but not two so my other alternative is to give notice to one of my exisiting chidren(who's place here is shaky anway?) thus leaving me only having to get variation for one!?

OP posts:
busymum1 · 07/04/2008 21:10

unless you give notice to one think you stuck as unless variation granted for mindee 4? or n.mindee 1 can do 10 early years sessions you will be over ratioed take it your dd is not counted as under 5

ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:11

thinking about it in a purely business way(which i should do more often!) i would be mad not to take these chidren on and give notice to mindee 4, but then (and dont ston eme here!) i currently 'get' omdays and tuesdays off between 9 and 3 so have managed to get all my normal jobs done plus lots of things around the house, so those 2 extra days plus and extra hour every day, plus the diff school..im torn between wether i could do it (suucesfully, making sure children are happy) and the extra £200 per week!

busymum1 · 07/04/2008 21:14

what worth more money or sanity? I take mainly term time only and shift workers as I like time to myself when ds2 asleep and dd1 at school works well for me more important than money but that is my personal opinion

ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:15

dd is classed as over 5 as shes in full time school, so my ratios go 2 under 5 and 3 over 5..i cant see them oging for(or me phsically being comfortable looking after 4 under 5 then 5 over 5 and a 10yr old after school!..vontrap family or what!.....OH NO!..HANG ON..my ratios are 3 under 5 and 2 over 5(plus dd)...im allowed 6 inc dd all in all!(plus over 8's)...so i WOULD be ok with one and 'could' maybe ask for variation..but still, i think this may be pushing it for me..if she does come back to me(we all know more often than not these can come to nothing!) and i am happy with them and vice versa, i think i would have to give notice to a current mindee

Rose - do you want a copy of the wonderful timetabling thingie that Lapin did me

It makes seeing the overlaps really easy

ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:16

i know what you mean BM!..thats a concern having children ehre from 7.30 till 6.30 when dd needs 'mummy' time

OP posts:
ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:16

yes please chick, do you still have my email address?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 07/04/2008 21:17

duh - not sure - can you email me?

busymum1 · 07/04/2008 21:18

or ask new parent if oldest can do 10 early years sessions

ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:19

that would cause more probs BM1, as then the 3pm pick up(as it is at present) would be impossible!
its the acceptance that 'something' may change come sept when her LO starts full time thats making me cling on to this one?

all you could do is speak to ofsted as only for 4 months but if you new don't be surprised if no if yes they may have to come and see you but don't forget your child may not be happy speak to her see what she thinks

MaureenMLove · 07/04/2008 21:27

Its really hard to see it, without that timetable of Lapins! I'm trying to write it all down now!

One thing I can see that might be a problem is, as you say, is the travelling 20 mins in the wrong direction for the new mindee. Alternative, if you consider them futher, can mother drop straight at brekkie club, so you wouldn't have to go that way at all. The last thing you need to be stuck in traffic and make your other mindees late for school. Parents wouldn't be impressed.

ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:28

dd likes all the chidren round..but...i fel guilty that i dont spend enough time with her ..just us..then i think well if i had to go out to work i couldnt earn this money and id NEVER see her??????

OP posts:
ROSEgarden · 07/04/2008 21:29

id be walking Mo, id never find car big enough to get this lot in ..its not a bad walk...on a good day....and mum starts at 8am..same time as breakfast club opens....

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 07/04/2008 21:44

Fair enough. Get that spread sheet then and have a good think.

Don't worry about DD, she's fine. You're right, if you worked away from the home, you'd see her even less. My dd has done just fine, with me doing CM since she was a baby. The grass is always greener, as they say.

ROSEgarden · 08/04/2008 09:04

well ill wait see if she rings back thsi morn..if not ill give her a courtesy call this afty and let her know the figures..i spoke to a cm friend of mine last night and she said shed cahrge £50 MORE than id said i would!!..but that wouls be £350 per week!..i dont know how anyone could pay that much!?..it IS for 11 hour days 5 days a week, but £350!..were would they get that money from?

looneytune · 08/04/2008 09:08

Just had a VERY quick look and sorry if anyone has mentioned this already. I would think due to the under 5 ages, Ofsted may give variation for the extra under 5 as siblings (and one near school age anyway) BUT the problem is also the under 8 total isn't it??? Wouldn't you end up with 7 under 8's? I may have miss read it all (knackered and full of cold) but if you would have 7 under 8's, I think that's more likely to be your problem. I think Ofsted only grant variations to ratios if the total remains within the 6 under 8 iyswim.

ROSEgarden · 08/04/2008 09:15

yes chick as id need variation for the 4th under 5, it would then make it 7 under 8.,..is that a sticking point with them??i do have quite a big house(when kitchen is backin full working order!)

OP posts:
looneytune · 08/04/2008 09:30

From what they've told me in the past, yes, it's a sticking point. Don't think it's to do with size of house, just that anything over 6 would need an assistant. Someone may say otherwise though so don't take my word for it! I can't remember what the insurance cover is either so may want to check that.

Always worth asking them though but try and get to speak to Inspection Support Team and DEFINITELY don't go by what the phone staff say!!!
