Do you pay the childminder when child is at pre-school?

Sorry if this is a silly question but unsure how all this works! TIA.

I did when I had a cm, she would not be able cover the 2.5 hours that DS was at pre-school so she was paid for that time.
It is the norm here

I am a cm. If I was required to take the child to preschool or nursery and to collect them again afterwards then YES I would expect to get paid for that. Also, if you require the cm to be responsible for your child whilst they are at preschool or nursery, ie if the child needs to be collected early if they are unwell or hurt, then you would expect to pay the cm too.
The only time I might not charge is if I had looked after the child for the morning and would not be responsible for the afternoon then I may not, or if I was not responsible for the morning and was only collecting at lunchtime and then for the rest of the day I may not charge.
Hope that makes sense!

This is my policy for under 5's at preschool. Hope it helps.

UNDER 5?S IN OTHER SETTINGS

A child is counted as an under 5 by Ofsted until they are in full time education i.e. at school for 10 sessions a week.

A child who is at pre school is a under 5 and if they are with a childminder before and after pre school, and require a fulltime space during the holidays they therefore are taking a childminders full time space. As such you are required to pay retainer fee for the time that they are at preschool, as the childminder cannot then fill the part time that they are at pre school.

I didn't at first (I dropped ds off & remained responsible for him) but now the cm drops him & picks him up, I do. I think charging is pretty much the norm round here.

By paying for the place its yours in school holidays, staff training days and any other time the preschool has to close.

I have offered 1/2 day places to families who do not require me to provide care when the preschool is closed. But having never been able to find another family who would want the other half day without overlapping hours, I am not keen to agree 1/2 days any more. Its too much of a drop in income.

BTW its usually the parent who collects if the child is unwell. Childminders do not normally collect/care for sick children because this could put other minded children at risk.

Quite usual for a childminder to charge.
Not sure about charging for the drop-off/collection. Think you may get that included - unlike when your child goes to school (as childminders don't charge when a 5 year+ is at school).

If your child is currently with a CM all day, check with the CM with regard to which pre-schools they are able to collect from. Don't sign up to a pre-school and then tell your childminder, as your CM may not be able to do the drop off / collection.
