My brain is scrambled tonight
I am trying to get as much ready as possible
can someone who is fairly recently registered give me some tips please.
Am I trying to do too much?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

List the policies you want

Think about your 14 standards - how will you meet them (think broad strokes not details - you keep children healthy with lots of F&V, you keep them safe with hand washing and gloves when changing nappies)

Think about the five outcomes for children

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being How will you help them achieve these

as a parent going to see a potential childminder, I'm not so interested in reading about your policies or seeing paperwork, I'd want to see that your house is clean ( NOT necessarily tidy, but def clean!) with suitable toys/arty stuff/ etc and what a typical day would be like.

I agree Hana - but OFSTED won't give a toss about that tbh

We will get Pellmell sorted for parents once the enormous obstacle of OFSTED is over

sorry! thought suitable person was potential parent

I'm going from nanny to childminder.
I will at least have the children I presently nanny for part time so thats good.

I did my Icp course almost a year ago and am finding it really hard to piece everything back together as it is not all fresh.
I've just received a copy of the standards again
The thing I am struggling with is the preparation of policies/ procedures
and a comprehensive list of the essential requirements (such as register/ sick child policy etc)
Any help would be so gratefully received.
I seem to have a wiring problem deep inside my brain when it comes to doing this

I was just hoping to buy a beginners pack etc from ncma but understand you need to be already registered to join ????

PellMell - have a look at the NCMA website as it has suggested ideas for policies which you can chop and change to suit you.

KatyMac · 06/04/2008 15:19

That's right about NCMA

Think about your policies

Sick/medication
Bank holidays
Annual leave
Behaviour Management
Equal Ops
Safety/Health & safety
