nanny pay? - zone 2 london

interviewed a lovely young (23) but fairly experienced nanny. She wants £100 net per day - we want her to do tues.wed.thurs ( obviously she will be live out) with us - 2 DS both under 3. Adding it up with tax and NI it seems like a lot - approx £400 - 450 ? ( not sure exact figures but am thinking around another 30%) for only 3 days. Is this reasonable ?Or not? Thank you for any thoughts.

300 net is around 20,163 per year, to which you will add another 2600 about in employers NI, so getting close to 23,000.

I don't know if the amount is reasonable for your area. Best to try to compare with what other jobs are offering. Also look at local cost of living - could someone rent a flat in your area on a salary of 20,000?

In my area, Surrey/North Hampshire, typically I feel a nanny would be on around £70-£85 net per day, dependent on experience.

I pay £18000 gross pa for 3 days, 10 hours a day, calculated based on £9ph net. Nanny older than yours, has 10y+ experience. I'm zone 3/4. So I don't think it's totally unreasonable but maybe a bit high. Is it through an agency? I find they tend to quote higher figures

wow

thats seems a lot for a 23 year old - i earn 10ph nett - and work just over 10hr days and take home 100nett a day ( get annual payrise soon ) but I have a 12 years on her,so think I can charge that

sure you can find either someone a bit cheaper, or someone with more 10 years more experience than her who wants the same amount

thanks everyone, yes you are all right, it was a bit 'toppy' and i checked against your suggestions nannynick. i discussed with the agency and said it was too expensive and 9 net would be my maximum. interestingly nanny immediately said yes - so good result. think i would have felt unhappy paying that much - as you said imananny - you have 12 years on her !! thank you again, much appreciated, lucy.

9ph nett still seems a lot for 23yr old - but if you are happy then thats good

ps - feeling every one of those 12 years today
