Hello all

My DH and I are shortly going to TTC... fingers crossed we'll be having a baby next year. DH's DD lives with us some of the time and we're prepping her for a brother or sister.

We're going to try to put some money aside from now on, but I'd like to get a handle on what we're going to be looking at.

I really love my job and would like to come back to work more or less FT. Also -- we can't afford for me not to work!

Can anyone tell me what the weekly/monthly cost would be for a CM/Nursery/Nanny in N16?

not sure about N16 exactly, but I live in zone 2, one bus from the City, so I guess my figures sure be a reasonable guide to the area.

Day nurseries round here from £40 daily to £70 daily - lower end is more common. DD's nursery is £50 daily but offers more flexible hours than most. Lots of nurseries offer a full week for 4 days' fees.

Childminders - £35-55 per day. Average somewhere in the middle.

Oooh thanks

depends on age and expereince with nannies but wage can vary from 6 - 10ph nett

so anything from 60 - 100 per day for 10hrs, plus on top of this tax and NI

cant advise about nurseries or CM

We are W13

Nurseries £50-£80 per day (higher end more common and spaces hard to find)

Childminder £45-£60 per day (hard to get a space)

Nanny- Live out £350-£450 pw net
Nanny- Live in £250-£350pw net
(plenty of nannies here)

Hi,

I'm a nanny in Islington/Hackney (E8). I've recently finished working with a family I was with for six months and now I am looking for a new job!

I know that a lot of nannies charge (as above) up to £450 pw net, but my rates are much more reasonable than that.

If you are interested, please do e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll tell you a bit more about myself.

If not, good luck with the hunt!

I'm in N15 just to the north of you and childminders are between £30-£60 a day, I feel very lucky to have found someone who charges £30 a day, £140 a week! I met another woman very close who charges £200 a week, and was quoted £5.50 an hour by someone on the other side of Tottenham. The Council nurseries here in Haringey charge £35 a day but the last increase was 9% (gulp!) and that's about half my take home pay, and it's hard to get a place. Private nurseries - I've heard of rates from two thirds to all my take home pay here, though a friend found one for £35 a day (must find out how it's working out for her).

Cripes --- I am doing the suyms and am totally dismayed. How on earth does anyone manage it?!!

I'm in N16, my CM charges £41 a day. Nurseries 50-60 IIRC.

fizzbuzz · 03/04/2008 13:36

But don't forget, most people can get those childcare thingies from employers now.

If both you and your dh claim you get a third off c/care costs

elkiedee · 03/04/2008 19:33

Not a third off childcare costs - depends on your tax band and your costs. dp and I as basic rate tax payers and with unusually low CM costs for London will save about £30 of £140 (our pension scheme means you pay slightly less National Insurance therefore you save slightly less money on CVs).

fizzbuzz · 04/04/2008 12:56

We get a third off..........

fizzbuzz · 04/04/2008 12:56

Ooops...no a quarter

PerkinWarbeck · 04/04/2008 20:31

I know it sounds like a lot out of your income, but don't forget that when you have a baby you'll be going out a lot less, possibly having less expensive holidays, wearing fewer fancy clothes,

or is that just me?

elkiedee · 05/04/2008 21:02

PW, that may be true but it's still a lot out of your income.

glucose · 05/04/2008 21:06

we are in SW1P our f/t day nursery is £936/month
