Hi,

I am working full-time at the moment, but looking to join an agency and get more freedom by being able to select shifts to work on, on a week-to-week basis. I am claiming UC and get 85% help with childcare costs for my baby, will switching to this agency work affect by help at all or will they still help me pay for 85% of childcare costs regardless.

Don’t know about the benefits, but have you actually found a provider who will let you pick childcare shifts week to week.

@Ponderingwindow yes. I have registered with the agency and everything is set up, so even now I am able to pick shifts if I wanted. However, I just wanted to ensure that if I left my full-time job that I would still get help with childcare. The GOV website states that I will get help regardless of how many hours I do, as long as I am working, so I just wanted to check this is ok.

That's not what PP asked. They won't pay for full time childcare if you're only working 10 hours a week for example.

PP was asking if you have found a childcare provider that will allow different days depending on your shifts. You may find it tricky to find a childcare provider that doesn’t insist ‘set’ days.

They should only pay the childcare costs for the hours you work.... I receive 85% childcare costs but work 36 hours per week condensed into 4 days so DD is at nursery 3 days per week. Honestly though I don't see why you should get the childcare costs for full time child care if you're working less hours than you need the childcare for! I may have got the wrong end of the stick (and I apologise if I have) but this is where things are messed up, some people claiming help when they don't actually need it
