Childminder won't let kids use the bathroom

My sister uses a childminder who has recently had her bathroom decorated, since it has been decorated the child minder won't let the kids use the bathroom. Instead the children must use a potty in the garden in a tent, if child needs a poo then they must ask for a bag to line the potty 🤮, surely this should not be allowed? My sister has removed her 10 year old and uses after school club instead but hasn't reported the childminder, I don't think any child should have to use the toilet like this and that the childminder should be reported, what do others think? My sister only knows as her child told her, and my sister confirmed the situation with the childminder so it's possible other parents don't know the situation

That’s not legal, is it? Report to Ofsted.

ItsNotABedOfRoses · 19/04/2024 16:14

If this is real then report her yourself.

Fleurridley · 19/04/2024 16:15

Thankyou, I was just checking, I will do

This is insane! I was a childminder until recently and have never heard anything like this. I wouldn't be happy at all and would report this.

SBHon · 19/04/2024 18:12

No way this is real

Fleurridley · 19/04/2024 18:21

It is real! Will probs delete the post though and deal with the situation !

I would absolutely report to Ofsted.

And brace for the papers to nick this story!

theeyeofdoe · 19/04/2024 19:31

I suspect, given that that she’s not registered. So yes report away.

SMaCM · 19/04/2024 21:04

It doesn’t sound right. Is the ‘childminder’ registered? Also is it a potty or a camping toilet?

PrincessScarlett · 20/04/2024 11:36

She's making a 10 year old use a potty in the garden? FFS! Definitely report this woman. Unbelievable. It's people like her that give childminders a bad name.

chocmatcha · 20/04/2024 11:37

Omfg no its not ok

This happened to us. dd started a new childminder and almost immediately started wetting herself. she hated it there so I removed her after a month. A year later she confessed that the childminder would not allow them to use her bathroom and forced them to use an outdoor toilet full of spiders. Dd was terrified if spiders at the time so refused to go. I was horrified and felt like I'd failed my dd. The childminder had shown us the facilities when we registered and there was no mention of an outdoor loo. I tried to report her to ofsted, but she'd already deregistered as a childminder. I would report her if you can. Well done to your sister for removing her.

Mistredd · 20/04/2024 12:46

I can imagine this..: sadly had avery bad experience with a childminder myself. Obviously many are fantastic but there are very unsuitable ones too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2024 12:54

Absolutely not on

Report at once and remove

hookiewookie29 · 21/04/2024 10:01

Childminder here.
That is not on, no way would Ofsted be happy with that!! It's just grim!

Joleyne · 22/04/2024 09:22

This is a 3rd hand account, and not even your child. Your niece has also already left the setting, from what I can make out.

The proper thing to do would be for your relative to raise a complaint with the childminder to give her chance to respond and deal with the problem. You don't know the arrangements, nor if it was a temporary work around while the bathroom was out of action. You probably won't ever know now.

If your relative doesn't get a satisfactory response from the childminder, she then raises it with LADO at the local authority and they will investigate, and decide if it needs to be escalated to Ofsted.

jannier · 22/04/2024 11:32

Was the cm registered or illegal?
All building work should be notified to Ofsted and risk assessments in place. Adequate toilet and hand washing must be in place.
Was it a potty or a camping toilet with a proper tent? Was it for a day while work completed or weeks? Was it really after work completed or during works? Lots of things you need to know before complaining
I would think it should have been a closure but we don't know for sure.
