Hi

i would like to ask my previous nanny to stay for three days with my teenager while I travel. How much would you charge if you were her? She is very nice and doesn’t mind any rate but I would like to make sure I pay her fairly. Child is in school from morning to 4.30

We need more detail.

Will she turn up at 4:30pm each day ?
Is she sleeping in your home or going back to hers each night ?
Is she expected to clean or do other chores while your teen is at school ?
Is teen fussy (food wise) and/or difficult if asked about homework etc ? Do they get up on their own in the morning or do they need waking up lots of times ?

Nonewclothes2024 · 19/04/2024 15:55

She does mind , she wouldn't accept £1 an hour.
What are her normal wages ? Go from there ? Time and a half or double time.

If something happens will she have to pick up from school ?
How quickly could you get back in an emergency?

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/04/2024 15:56

Looking at 250/300 a day I say as a rough guide

She's on call even when at school. Can't go too far or work elsewhere

Bananachip2023 · 19/04/2024 15:57

she worked for us several years ago and the rate was 14 ph per hour back then.
now my child is bigger and doesn’t need the nanny but of course need someone to stay with him.
the nanny will stay overnight, prepare something to eat, maybe keeping the place neat (no cleaning)

She currently works somewhere else during the morning so she will go there when my dc is in school. I think suggested rate by @Blondeshavemorefun is right

Are you saying 4pm til 9am, for 3 days?
17hours a day, at £15/hour, is £255.
So, the 250-300 a day feels in the right order to me.

WaltzingWaters · 19/04/2024 16:27

Assuming your child has no SEN and she’ll get a full nights sleep an overnight rate is usually a little less than normal waking hours wage. But I’d say £250 overall if she’s able to go do other job during the day and comes back to yours for 4:30pm.

She would barely have to do anything so I think £250-300 would be very generous. I think £150 a day would be a good rate. Round it up to £500 and I bet she would be delighted.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/04/2024 17:13

For the hours £150 isn't enough

Nmw for a starter

Plus she is giving up her evening /night and not in own home

Glad to see op is in agreement

One thing tho say your child is poorly /s&d etx

Who would have her school

We asked our old au pair (so not quite the same, but now she's a qualified paed nurse prescriber) to stay with DS1 who would have been 15 and didn't/couldn't come away with us - for a myriad of reasons. 3 nights.

She came after work each day and stayed. So she probably got there around 6pm and we paid for her travel and then I left a meal one night, they had a take away the second and then went out the third which I also paid for. I also gave her £250, which she said was too much.

I'd honestly ask her. I think £250/day is too much is she has another job during the day.

Wonderful advice, thank you everyone! I think the consensus is 250 a day or so. My DC doesn’t have sen, so it’s just staying overnight so that the child is not alone really. And yes, she will get full night sleep. Thank you🙏🏼
