15 hours childcare for 9 month olds & returning to work

Hi,

I have been looking at the new childcare that’s offering 15 hours for 9 month olds to 2 year olds. I checked childcare choices website and it suggests that as he was born end of November he would be entitled to the 15 hours from September term as he will be 9 months by then, does anyone know if this is correct?

my question other is around me returning to work, the gov website says “ You can apply if you’re starting or re-starting work within the next 31 days” and also then says “Over the next 3 months you and your partner (if you have one) must each expect to earn at least: £2,380 before tax if you’re aged 21 or over (equivalent to £183 per week)”

So would I be able to start the childcare on 1st September and return to work on 1st October? And by return to work do I actually need to be back fully or just need to be earning £2,380 between September 1st and December 1st as I was thinking/hoping that I could use my 10 KIT days for October and then use my built up holiday for November and return fully in December ie between paid KIT days and holiday I will have earned the required amount but not actually return to work as such.

Use the month before you start to settle baby. As a childminder I do settling over a month at babys and parents pace.

Thanks, I was looking at doing that anyway but mainly trying to work out when I should return to work. Thanks for your comment though ☺️

If your ds was born in November he will be 9 months in August, so yes, if you are eligible, the funding can start from September.
My understanding is that you can apply for a code if you are due to start work in the following 31 days.
You will need your code by the end of August for it to be valid in September so you will need to apply before this and the start earning within the next month.

As you mention KIT days I guess you're on maternity leave?
If so you can apply whilst on ML and should be eligible even if not earning.

Thank you so much that’s very helpful. I am on maternity leave yes, but SMP ends mid August and I will then be on unpaid maternity leave so wasn’t sure if I needed to be back at work earning for me to be able to claim the hours
