sibling reduction

I will be looking after the older brother of a child I mind in the school holidays. Contract hasn't been drawn up yet but in case the parents ask, is a reduction for siblings usual? And how much is the fee usually reduced by? I charge £3.50 for one child, should I make it £7 or £6.50 or maybe £6.75 for two??

Do you have to mind from your own home, or is it possible to rent a house to work from, and have two childminders working from there?

KatyMac · 31/03/2008 00:38

You (or another minder) have to live in the housr you mind in

WallOfSilence · 31/03/2008 21:10

Well the minder I went to see today was absolutely lovely!

She was great with the kids, not as over the top as another one we went to see (who told ds she loved him within the 1st 20mins)

She had other mindees there, who played with dd & ds.

She has no children of her own but she got all her quals so she could do nursery work & she did for a while until she bought this new house & decided to childmind.

She gives sibling reduction of 50p per hour per 2nd child, she provides meals too.

She's going to take the kids an afternoon this week to see how they get on

i saw thread title and thought were thinking of culling...

MaureenMLove · 31/03/2008 21:14

Excellent news! Did you chat about anything and everything? That's usually what my parents tell me later. That I could talk the hind legs off a donkey!

WallOfSilence · 31/03/2008 21:33

Yes! Her dh came in & it turned out I knew him. It was nice to see him play outside with the kids too... he was playing footie with them & her little nephew had come over for a play so it was like a normal day.

MaureenMLove · 31/03/2008 21:37

Even better then! It must be such a relief to know that you know him and so nice that he got involved with the children. Most of my mindees prefer dh to me half the time, I'm sure of it!

hennipenni · 31/03/2008 21:48

My mindees always ask if DH is at home and then get upset when I tell them he's at work.

MaureenMLove · 31/03/2008 21:58

Mine works from home most of the time and one particular mindee sits on the bottom stair and shouts for him constantly! In fact, her dad said to me yesterday, she's really gonna miss MrMo! Er, excuse me, who am I then, the cats mother!

WallOfSilence · 31/03/2008 22:00

Are you stopping c/minding then Mo?

What are you going to be doing instead?

MaureenMLove · 31/03/2008 22:09

A lady of leisure. what a wonderful thought, but no, sadly not. I've got a proper job! I'm going to be a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school from 21st April. I finish minding on Friday this week! Very sad to be doing so, but dd is nearly 13 now and there's really no need for me to work from home. I also feel I've had enough of living in a home surounded by baby stuff! I'm having a new kitchen fitted soon and I'd really rather not have child locks fitted, a highchair stuck in the corner and a stairgate across the door!

hennipenni · 31/03/2008 22:16

Run Mo, run as fast as you can!!

I will admit however that in 4 yrs time I'm looking at doing my teacher training as I was going to train as a teacher before I had my DDs and trained as a nurse instead.

WallOfSilence · 31/03/2008 22:24

What's a 'Cover Supervisor'?

Is it a bit like a TA who can teach?

MaureenMLove · 31/03/2008 22:31

Wellll, I sit in on a class, with pre-set work from the teacher, when they can't be there for whatever reason. I have admitted to be happy to cover any lesson. I must be completely insane! I haven't got a clue about anything religious and god help me if I have to do sport! I don't even own anything remotely sporty! I aparently will deserve slightly more respect than a supply teacher!
