Do I charge extra?

Hi,
I look after a couples' child for 1 hour. This involves a collection from his nursery and bringing him home, by walking or on the bus. Their second child is due to start at the same nursery too in 2 wks. I'll be doing the same job, same time but with 2 kids. One is 3 yrs, one is 1 year. Do I charge more? How much more if so?

I think doing that with a 1yr old is a lot harder than with a 3yr old, and doing it with 2 children you definitely should charge more.
I'd double your fee then reduce a little. Say you charge 20 for one child, fee is 35 for two. Taking two children of those ages on the bus could be hard work.

I think you should do a bit of market research!

From what I see, childminders and after school/nurseries charge per child per hour, but it's not much. Nannies charge a higher fee per hour to cover multiple children and other contingent things that might need doing, like cooking.

Didn’t you start a thread about this a little while ago?

Littlestmomo · 15/03/2024 09:29

Just had a look and you had replies on your initial post. Are you expecting different replies this time?

lovenotwar149 · 15/03/2024 12:24

Thank you. Yes I did have a similar thread, but I didn't think I made it clear enough, like I have this time. Thank you again for reading and replying, much appreciated

Our nursery does 10% discount for second child. So do something like that.

jannier · 16/03/2024 20:25

Are you doing it as part of a childminder job or just an hour's work a day?

lovenotwar149 · 17/03/2024 08:05

just an hours work a day. sometimes it could be 2 hours on any one day

Yes,you should charge ! The same amount as for the other child.

LIZS · 17/03/2024 10:38

Do you charge for your time getting to and fro?

museumum · 17/03/2024 10:39

At least 50% more, but less than 100% more. Somewhere mid point I’d say, it’s definitely a lot tougher with two.

scaredofthefuture2024 · 17/03/2024 10:55

Yes.

Menomeno · 17/03/2024 10:59

When mine went to a childminder after school for an hour, I had to pay for an entire day for both of them, as she would have been unable to have two more kids during the day or she’d have too many after school. I thought that was standard (though it was going back quite a few years).

Nejnej · 17/03/2024 10:59

Yeah, I would expect to pay for each child but a small discount would be nice for the family?

lovenotwar149 · 17/03/2024 13:35

thanks. I charge £12 for the hour for the one child. I have decided to charge £16 for the two of them. Very reasonable I feel

Possibly should have gone higher, so be it

Not unless they are under 5 or she was full and lost a full time space to take yours.

Wow that's a lot 3 hours childminder fee in my area is 15 including tea and they can use tax free or claim up to 80%
