Do I report the childminder?

Hello

I just need your wise opinions - most as to whether I am overreacting…

Went to view what we thought was a nursery - it turned out to be a childminder with assistants - not an issue and we wanted to give it a fair shot… we were shown round and there were a couple of big red flags - the largest was that we were in the hall and the apprentice has got a child from the sleep
room (they had put her in there as she didn’t want to go outside) and she had wet herself. The apprentice then had her strip off and changed her in the baby room, in front of us… we weren’t ushered into another area or anything and I would of thought this was a safeguarding issue as it didn’t seem appropriate… we have decided that our child
will not be going there - tbh some of the other things we saw would have been enough - but this really shook us…. I suppose my question is - what should I do- if anything?

Use your own judgment. None of us were there, but if what you saw makes you uncomfortable than report to Ofsted.

Children should not be changed in front of others. Even if we are the only adult, and doing a nappy we should shield the child from the view of others as much as possible

Apprentices are not fully qualified. They are still learning the rules and procedures.

Was there adults with the sleeping babies ?

Was there another person with the apprentice?

fairymary87 · 11/03/2024 03:55

Report! She shouldn't be changed like that at that age in front of anyone!!!

KomodoOhno · 11/03/2024 04:42

I would also report.

We were in the hallway with the childminder - the apprentice was in another room off the hallway - we turned away when we saw what was happening.

There were two children in the sleep room - the girl who got changed and hadn’t wanted to go out and a boy on a sleep mat who was poorly and waiting for his mother to get in touch. There were no staff in there - she had set an alarm to check them every 15 mins…

I think I am leaning towards reporting - I would be worried if that were my child…

What did the childminder say when you mentioned it?

Joleyne · 11/03/2024 15:26

The childminder should have a complaints procedure. Send her a written complaint: she's supposed to deal with it within 28 days.

Going straight to Ofsted is rather like a customer going straight to the CEO because a trainee handled a delicatessen item unhygienically.
I hope you'd complain to the shop first and allow them to try and put things right with training.
