Self employed grace period and 30 hours eligibility

Hey, hoping someone call help with a situation. Had a confusing call with the childcare choices line / HMRC today about eligibility for 30 hours. They said they had received my 22/23 tax return and were questioning ongoing eligibility.

Self employment started in August 2022 with an trial/grace period of 12 months.
Earnings below ÂŁ167/week for mum, dad employed.

We understood we were eligible for 30 hours and earnings in first year weren't counted.

So I guess that's still okay.

Now concerned that earnings for second year may not be enough.
Second year starts Aug 23 running to Aug 24. However tax return for 23/24 won't hit the annual amount of ÂŁ8700 approx (ÂŁ167*52).

As only 7 months of that tax year were in the second year of self employment, how would this work?
How much earnings would have allowed us to keep the 30 hours? And do you have to pay it back? Confused and concerned!
