Morning school drop-off options?

Hello,

My working hours don't allow me to drop off the kids at school in the morning, and childminders in my local areas do not offer drop offs, what other solutions are there?

Thanks for your help

Is there no breakfast club at school?

Sausagesinthesky · 13/02/2024 22:14

Before school nanny? Might find a local person/student that wants a couple of hours daily work.

Age of children? I knew someone who paid a uni student to walk the children to school. And contact the school to see if there is a breakfast club. We also have off-site breakfast clubs that walk children to school. But are there really no childminders who offer this? Such an obvious thing for them to do!

Breakfast club at school is full.
Any apps or trusted websites to search for before school nannies or students who'd be interested? My kids are 9 and 10 so a childminder would be more suitable.

They need transport to go to school as it's not the local school. It's only a 5 min drive though.
What about taxi companies which offer school drop offs? Anybody tried them? Are they safe? Will there be other passengers in the car?

What have you done until now if they are 9 and 10? Do you have any flexibility with your work? Maybe you could take it in turns with other parents who live by you?

I was working part-time for a while so I did the school run myself but now I'm going back to work full time. No flexibility in working hours although I can work from home.

A five minute drive is what, a 20 minute walk? Mine were doing a 20 minute walk with each other from the summer term of year 5, or they could get a bus if there is one. If they’re reasonably responsible they should be fine. If they gave another parent on the scene could they take them? I’m not sure you need childcare for them at that age.

Lucky you @PieAndLattes , mine are lazy and they don't like walking in the morning. But it's in my plans for this summer. We only have one bus near us and it's like 1 bus per hour and not synced with school times so not practical.
Has anybody here tried school run taxis? I usually use Uber but they won't take unaccompanied kids.

We have a couple of children at my school that use a taxi service for school runs. They collect and drop off in the play ground just before doors open and taxi is waiting for them at the end of the day to take them home. It works well for parents and children.

I would put your name down for breakfast club at the school it will be easier. How will you cover the 13 weeks of school holidays OP?

Phillipa12 · 14/02/2024 06:42

It's always the same vehicle and taxi driver though.

Holiday camps and after school clubs are available.
The problem is the morning run as the breakfast club isn't available.

When you said childminders in your local area don't offer drop offs, and now that you live a bit further from the school, have you definitely tried childminders close to the school, rather than your house? As childminders who do drop offs still won't do them to more than one school, ime.
It might be temporary as if you're on the waiting list for the breakfast club spaces could open up when the current lot move up a year.
