Are nannies usually paid weekly or monthly? i'm paid monthly so would like to pay nanny monthly also but she wants to be paid weekly. We havent finalised contract yet b/c we have had family "emergency" over 2 weeks that she's been with us so that's on backburner til this long weekend gives me time to do

Mine is paid monthly (when I get paid).

I pay mine weekly. The standing order is set up for a tuesday so the money hits her account on a Friday. She requested to be paid weekly.

We pay weekly at the moment; in the past we've paid monthly.

I think it's one of those things where (unless there is genuine practical reason why not) it's the employee's call.

but if i get paid monthly in arrears i have to pay my nanny before i have the money to pay her - does that make sense?

Yes, I do understand that - but can you not stash some aside from past months so that you've got the nanny's salary in hand for the first month? Then it runs on naturally after that.

If you don't earn enough to do the set-aside, then of course that would be a reason to ask her to agree monthly payment.

I'm paid monthly in arrears - I doubt my employer would be able to afford to pay me weekly, as she gets paid monthly.
I don't feel an employee should dictate the terms of when they get paid... I feel that is the Employers call.
I know it's tricky when starting a new job... but everyone is in that same situation when starting a job, the first payday is some way off. Nannies are not different from other employees in that respect.
If you as the employer are unable to offer weeky pay, then I don't feel you should have to offer that. You are stating the terms of the contract and your nanny either agrees to them, or does not accept the job.

I like to be paid weekly but it's the employers call definately.

Can you not tell her she has to be paid monthly because you are and you won't have the funds but tell her that for the next month or so, until she has sorted her money out, that you will "sub" her an amount weekly (decide what you could possibly afford and don't go over it!). I know from past experience (as a nanny) that between jobs my savings take a nose dive and I need to get a grip on my money again so have asked for the first month or so weekly then gone to monthly as I don't spend so much if I get paid monthly!!!

Also if you pay someone to calculate the tax etc - they charge twice as much for weekly-paid!

I have had both but it has always been whatever is most convenient for my employers
