Where would you start looking for help from a fairly remote area of Scotland ?

I have never had help from anyone before eg babysitters (we don't get out) and I'm a bit confused between the roles of childminders, nannies etc.
We are in the process of moving house but I also have to empty my dad's house as well.
The upshot is that we are in a very rural location and living in complete chaos right now. DH and I take turns to look after the children while the other does all the farm work.DD has special needs. We are exhausted and wonder if there is such a thing as a mobile nanny to look after the children while I am in the house?
The nearest agency seems to be in Edinburgh or Glasgow - a fair distance away. Our nearest town would be Perth.
We don't have a room for an au pair because of the chaos. We have no living family nor neighbours. Please can someone help me with advice ?

You could try searching through the cvs on nannyjob.co.uk. And looking at whichever gumtree.com site is closest to you.

The difference between childminders and nannies (at least in the UK, not sure if any variation in Scotland) is that Childminders are registered and inspected and insured and look after the children in their own home. They are self-employed, generally charge by the hour and will set their own activities etc.
Nannies are employees, so you get to tell them what you want them to do (within reason ), they do not have to have any qualifications or insurance, and they work from your home. They tend to have their salarys quoted as net per hour - so you need to add on the cost of tax and NI since you will be paying them too - and also paying for their food, travel expenses etc.

It's a shame you can't fit a live-in helper in, I would think that that would be the easiest for a very remote location.

Thank you so much Millarkie for taking the time to look. It is massively appreciated.
I have e-mailed her and fingers crossed.

Sorry- can't help, but I'm glad I now know that Gentle otter is not NotAnOtter on a chilled day!

hope you get sorted...

FranticOtter today. I have had several e-mails from the only nanny advertised for our Gumtree area but she cannot start till July.
Surely there has to be a childminding/nanny group for Perthshire? It is a massive area.
The Perth Council can only give info for a Glasgow agency.....
