Can anyone relate their experience: how long does it take? Are there elephant traps?

Advice please!!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant, loved her, want her back. She was in Canada, applied for a Working Holiday Visa whilst there (I did a letter to support her application) it took 6 weeks in total. She could work here for 1 year and the rest of the time was a holiday. micrathena had a Canadian AP and is up-to-date with current Visa rules.

Thank you so much - I am so keen on this au pair, just the right attitude. She's eligible for ancestoral visa, is this preferable to working holiday? Also, what about healthcare for Canadian au pairs in UK - can they register with a GP? did your Mrs Recycle? do they have to pay? or did you arrange some kind of insurance?

she did register with my GP although her parents health insurance covered her over here. I don't know about the ancestoral visa though and how long it takes. Check out the home office website, there is a page about visas.

Thanks Sprogger - you seem to know your stuff. Do you know how long ancestry visas take to organise? Is there any useful websites apart from the government issue websites with useful tips? Or a book that would be handy?

I have had two Canadians. The first came in on working ho liday, the second actually had dual citizenship so no problem there. The one who had a working holiday visa arranged it herself and showed up on a plane. All I did was pick her up.

The sad thing about the working holiday is that they might have to leave because their visa has expired even if you don't want them to.
