Hello!
Got 2 kids (2 and 6 months), looking to go back to work full time in a few months, going to use a nursery for 2 days (they are both on the waiting list for other days at our preferred nursery) and I'm wondering whether we can afford a nanny for 2 days a week as well. Live in Birmingham.

How does it all work? Tell me your experiences of hiring a nanny. How did you find them? If the nanny is doing 2 days a week for you (and presumably working for other families on other days), would you still count as their employer? Or would they be 'self employed' since multiple families? Cost breakdown, how do you pay NI, pension etc, sick pay? Any dos / don'ts etc.

Thanks for your help!

Yes, you are likely wanting them to work specific days, specific times, not want them to be taking a booking, where you risk them not being available.
I have two jobs, which are both one day per week... they are both done as employment. Employer pension contribution and Employers NI is dependent on the salary being paid. If you were paying £300 per week/£1300 per month, then Employers NI is about £75 per month, and employer pension contribution about £23 per month.

Nanny payroll companies can help with doing the payroll admin, they may charge around £250 a year. NannyPaye for example is £179.99+£60 pension+£24.99 for contract. So first year £264.98, second year £239.99 https://www.nannypaye.co.uk/nanny-payroll

As a nanny I found my part-time jobs via parents advertising on Childcare.co.uk
