Hi there,

I was in a similar position recently and I had to send a letter out to mindees parents to say that although my policies state that I never have un-CRB checked adults in my home during working hours, my hubby had booked the work to be done and hadn't told me til the friday before the were due to start on the Mon!! then

We coped by staying out of the house as much as poss - other childminders houses (you can offer to return the gesture), toddler groups and drop in sessions, taking packed lunches everywhere or eating in sainsburys cafe (not that expensive - children can all share adult sized portions)

When we needed to be in I set up activities in corners of rooms and asked for co-operation from workmen - explaining that I am a c/m and please would they close gates after themselves and keep front and back doors closed.

It won't be as bad as you are anticipating - avoid trying to do elaborate activities and just let them play as best they can - I'm sure the parents will realise you are doing the best you can given the circumstances.

Good luck [

Hi
I had my house rewired and plumbing and kitchen done by the council 2 years ago. The plumbing and rewiring was done in the same week so I took a weeks holiday. There's no way I could've worked during that week because the house was dusty and basically unsafe. the second week involved getting the kitchen replaced. I worked that week, I just made sure that stairgates were kept closed and that the kitchen was out of bounds. It wasn't too bad. HTH
