What do you think?
80mph winds sound scary but is it odd to close in severe weather conditions?

I would think you stay open, and it is up to the parents to decide if they want to venture outdoors... I'm sure you won't be taking mindees anywhere!!

KatyMac · 11/03/2008 22:44

Absolutely

We are due at a network meeting over on the coast - but I might cancel I think

Maybe I need a closure policy - there maybe reasons why I should close

I have a snow policy, perhaps it might be as well for us all to think about a Bad Weather policy at some point soon.

It was dangerous here today, we only ventured out, in the car, to collect boys from school today.

I guess they were hoping to stay home & not have to pay

4 school runs tomorrow as well

Thinking about what you would do with severe weather warnings is definitely a good idea - as a parent I would back my CM 100% if she erred on the side of safety!

KatyMac · 11/03/2008 22:54

I won't take any little ones out - but I think I will ask the Nursery children's mums whether they want there child to go or not

They will be safe once they are there - but if it's bad I would worry about getting them there

Take it easy out there!

As none of the teachers live locally the primary school would be first to close. If the school is able to remain open then I could not justify closing as I live only 2 streets away. If the school closed I would not obliged to go outside and could choose to provide indoor activities all day, and again no reason to close.

I've worked with families in the same street - even if the weather was too severe for them to get to work it wouldn't mean a day off for me as they'd still be able to bring their child and get on with stuff at home. And some work at home anyway.

Severe weather for me would mean a loss of outings, no toddlers etc but I would not close.

I've just remembered a situation before I was childminding when we were trapped indoors by a huge swarm of bees in the front garden. So thinking some sort of policy statement to the effect that safety is a priority over agreements to get to preschool promptly etc and in certain circumstances I may choose to cancel outdoor activities/outings in the interests of safety. And give severe weather as an example rather than the only reason I may do this.

Not that I expect further swarms of bees, but it pays to expect the unexpected iyswim?

I am on the South Coast, and I am still open - the only reason I would close was if I had no power / water etc.

On Monday one of my preschoolers didn't go to preschool as the two roads to get him there were closed, so he had the day off. I do have policy for bad weather, which says that if the parents get the child to me and I feel that it is too much of a hazard for us to go on the school run / nursery etc then I will keep them at home with me.

It is very windy here again today!

KatyMac · 12/03/2008 14:44

It's not been that bad here tbh

Glad I opened

But I must write a policy
