And what a windy one it is!
I've been up since about 4.30am as the wind is so noisy and I can hear bins and things falling over all over the road!
Was going to pop into town this morning to get a few bits I need before my interview this afteroon, but I don't think I will be going anywhere looking outside! I'm hoping it might calm down soon!

oh rose - no help don't know what to say but arg! houses are a pain just like cars!

just had to send mindee home. woke up from nap and had been sick all over cot. rang mum and she said he'd done it sat night too! mmmmmm. anyway just me and dd now as afterschooly also sick. and not in school today.

off to clear up yuck, not good when i fell like heaving myself!

Well then argue with him. Have you got a new for old policy? You have to be left with a kitchen that is as workable that the old one. Don't be negative about this - yet! The surveyor is a human too. He's got his own kitchen and his own home and he will know what things cost. Try to keep in mind that somewhere inside that suit and clip board there will be a heart. You may have to sob, bat your eyelids or show him a bit of thigh but he is a human!

ROSEgarden · 10/03/2008 16:04

i dont have a 'bit' of thigh i have a lot of thigh!LOL..yeah it is new for old, so obv if he ay £300 to me when ive been told £1400, then i can argue that his estimation isnt the true cost to replace it..prob is builder said £1400 for 'some' work, should i research unit prices etc so i can give them that too?..but then i dont know what it would cost to refit the units/surfaces/tiles...arghhhhh

southernbelle77 · 10/03/2008 16:57

afternoon all! Totally fed up with this weather has have had to change twice now with the school run - and that with using the car too

Interview seemed to go well and they are coming back for a settling in next week so as long as that goes ok then hopefully we can do contracts and all is well!

Sorry about your kitchen Rose. Thats a pain you can do without I'm sure. Like Mo says, appeal to the guys sensitive side!

Oh dear EM. Not a nice thing to have to deal with and poor mindee who sounds like maybe should have been at home all along.

Evening Girls..just had company out who will do everything from taking tiles off, reskimming, drying out, electrics, plumbing etc etc..all under one company, they then supply and fit the kitchen..no idea what price is gunna be, but am expecting a biggy!
will have to try and find out what price each tradesman would charge individually and see where we can go from there

am in p.j's already, i just want my bed...hes said if they do it(all the tradesmen work for them so much better organised than if i organise myself) i would be without sink, washer, dishwasher for aprrox 2 weeks..would take approx 3 weeks to complete..so no kitchen for 3 weeks..is this something i should contact ofsted about?

i already know how i would work it(fridge freezer, micro wave, kettle toaster all in breakfast room, dishwasher 'can' be plugged in in garage and waste pipe lead to drain outside(same goes with washing machine i guess?) and cupboard food all in plastic boxes in breakfast room..i only do dinner for one mindee, so we can live on these little means for 3 weeks and mindees will be fine with sandwhiches/soups/tortiila/pastas etc...please tell me i can do it

MaureenMLove · 10/03/2008 20:20

Defo tell Ofsted. Not sure how they work it, but they do need to know. When's the bloke coming from the insurance company?

BTW, if I suddenly disappear, I'm not ignoring you. Lights are flickering and we may be in for a power cut. Battery knackered on laptop and will only last about 10 mins!

ROSEgarden · 10/03/2008 20:26

contents(about flooring) arn't cming till mon next week, buildings surveyor hasnt rang yet, although his secretary has to say he's going too????..we even have local cafes. my mums that we can eat in if neccesary, but i dont see it as a prob, i only mind through the day on wed thur and fri the rest is just after schoolys and were normally always out at end of week as i have 2-3 under 5, easier if im out and about..kitchen can be out of bounds(door locked/shut off) so none of the children can get anywere near and fresh water food etc will all be available in fridge/boxes in breakfast room..hope theyll be ok with it?..obv the bathroom is fine(hopefully!!??!) so toilets/hands etc are not a problem.

MaureenMLove · 10/03/2008 20:29

I think that's exactly what Ofsted want to hear. From memory they just want to know the extent of the work and what steps you are taking to safeguard the children. No doubt they will want to see that you've imformed all the parents too!

ROSEgarden · 10/03/2008 20:33

on top of sorting it all out ive got to get the say so from the higher power too!..parents will be fine would i have to give dates or could i send ltter saying"in about 4 weeks i will not ahave a kitchen for 3 weeks, ive let paretns know, this is how ill provide my normal care, this si what ill do to keep them safe and so on"? or will they need dates?

MaureenMLove · 10/03/2008 20:40

I'm not 100% sure, but someone in the staff room has done it, so ask them all in the morning. I managed to get around my extension work, because we did all the work in it, before actually knocking it through to the house. So old back door and adjoining wall were always between us and the building work. Only took a day for the knock through and DH did it on a day that I didn't have mindees.

ROSEgarden · 10/03/2008 20:43

right, will check in in the morn..it WILL be perfectly safe for them all, its all contained to kitchen (back garden on occasion, but we have front garden to play in or park clsoe by).

thanks chick off for a martini..i know its only monday but i need it
