What age was your child when your stopped letting them have day time naps when did your make them go all the way to bedtime my 16month old is having 1-2 naps in the day but people are telling me to cut the day time naps out because he's still not sleeping through the night yet but I just don't want him being groggy throughout the day because he's not had his nap/naps and would this even be worth is would he sleep through the night if I cut them out FTM btw still learning lol

There is never a guarantee they are going to sleep through the night whether they have naps or not. Think about it logically, as an adult do we always sleep all night without waking for one reason or another?

The obsession with babies sleeping through the night is unhealthy imo.

I wouldn't drop the naps entirely, maybe 1. If they are tired and groggy during the day they are going to end up overtired and then chances are the nighttime sleep will actually get worse.

Good sleep breeds good sleep.

At 16 months I'd try and transition to just the one nap and make it such that they don't sleep later than 2.30 so that at least bedtime is smooth.
But some kids just don't sleep through the night. Some adults don't sleep through the night. I agree that it is a bizarre obsession in this country to insist babies should be sleeping 7-7.

My three year old still naps and sleeps through the night. She started sleeping through around 2.

My DS stopped napping twice a day at 11 months and started sleeping better at night. Just one 2 hour nap was enough for him. He stopped naps completely at 2 years 7 months. We realised that him napping during the day was keeping him awake past9 pm.
Also my DS goes to nursery (daycare) all 5 days a week from 8.30-5.30 so gets pretty tired.

Try 1-3 days and see how it goes.

Mine had naps until just before he turned 4. They're all different really! But some children wake at night.... I would possibly try to drop to one nap, at a set time, something like 12-2 with a 7pm sleep time and keep going with that for as long as they fall asleep at 7pm. I never found night wakes related to naps (though I got them if he was over tired) but once not going to sleep at 7 then we slowly shortened nap and then it naturally stopped..

19 months. Wasn’t about me deciding she was going to nap or “making” her stop - one week she was falling asleep regular as clockwork at 11:45 for 2 hours, the next week she just didn’t fall asleep again at that time. Did mean I had to avoid car journeys after 4pm for a bit so as not to have any “danger naps” and we brought bedtime forward a little. But it wasn’t me who decided (although I was glad we didn’t have to work around naps anymore on days out)

Children need plenty of sleep to learn typical 18month olds need 14 hours in 24 with 10 to 12 at night 2 to 3 in the day.
Overtired children find it hard to fall asleep and are more like hamsters on a wheel unable to stop their behaviour gets worse and it can impact learning.

My little one had two naps almost 18m, he just needed them. He gradually on his own started to have the morning nap later and later, then it became one big nap.

I try to follow his lead rather the impose sleep schedules on him. It works for doo for us. he is now 2yo and has a 3h afternoon nap. It is great.

You do you! If you feel like they still need two naps that's fine. Different children have different routines and needs.
