We have a DD4 who just started school and a DD1 who is in nursery and need help with drop off and pick-ups, some wraparound care and general stuff around the house. We've been thinking about getting an au-pair but live in a village where they would need to be able to drive. What are your thoughts and the best places to advertise? Does anyone have experience with agencies?

Sorry for the many questions, it's all a bit much to navigate!

Edit for the typo: We're thinking live-in help because we have an annex they could use and that might help keep costs down a bit and make it easier for everyone.

I'm absolutely no help to you but I thought your typo in the title was hilarious.

I was having visions of you serving it up with java beans and a good chianti.

Ironically I'm actually vegetarian, though DW and the kids aren't...

My friends used an agency, not sure which one but they struggled to get people willing to live in a village. They had an annex with separate front door and had to offer a car, flights etc to entice applicants

au pair world is your best bet. If you can offer an annex and a car you stand a better chance if finding someone.it’s much more difficult now that you can’t hire someone from the EU.

basically though, you’re not getting an employee, you’re hosting them.
there is more info on it here

Ah. I’ve also noticed that you have a 1 year old too. That’s a bit young for an au pair. Maybe something to consider for the future.
