Hi Mo, have you made your mind up?

MamaG · 04/03/2008 12:11

made your mind up about what, Mo?

Has anybody seen Shoshe lately? I need to kick her up the bum.

Mo - news on the cake front. I've had to chagne my hours at work (WAH) so now work 4 short days instead of 3 long meaning I can take and pick up the DC so I won't have time to make the cake on Thursday as I'll be at work

However, I am going to do the following as it won't take too long:-

choc cake
covered in choc buttercream
green icing T-Rex plonked on top (have made blu-tack model, its fine!)
mini eggs around the edge (dino eggs!)

Does it sound like it will look shit? I think DS will like it - his birthdays on Friday and I have to go shopping Thursday night, so I'm only going to have limited time on Thurs night to make it

BoysAreLikeDogs · 04/03/2008 12:17

Just 1 mindee today, the other 2 are not well.
WE've been out for a wander round RSPB reserve, tramped to the Hide and had fun peeping through the viewing slits, asleep now aww

MaureenMLove · 04/03/2008 12:50

Sounds fine! If you have gone to the trouble of making it yourself, DS will remember it for ever!

Made my mind up about the job I was offered yesterday! And no, not yet, tomorrow is D-Day. Right now, I am 90/10 for, early it was 70/30!

MamaG · 04/03/2008 12:55

oooh Mo I missed that - what job?

Yes, am happy with the cake, think he'll love it - hope you've sent me enough green colouring

MaureenMLove · 04/03/2008 13:15

There shold be, just remember a little bit at a time. It might end up looking radio-active!

The job is for a cover supervisor in a secondary school. That means, covering lessons, when teachers are unavailable, giving them pre-set work to do. I made have made a huge mistake by saying I didn't mind covering maths though!

MamaG · 04/03/2008 13:23

ooh it sounds fab - what's holding you back?

MaureenMLove · 04/03/2008 13:28

Just the pathetic female in my, who 'doesn't like to let you down.'! I'll have to tell mindees parents this week and I'm brickin it!

mumlove · 04/03/2008 13:38

Mindees are sleeping and I am having a sit down (did put the washing on the line 1st).

mumlove · 04/03/2008 13:41

Mo - you will be fine telling the parents, just breathe deeply and don't mention chocolate .

LoveMyGirls · 04/03/2008 13:50

Mo do you know any other cm's who you can pass the parents onto?

MaureenMLove · 04/03/2008 13:56

Its only two that I need to be concerned about tbh. One is a schoolie, who's will huff and puff at me a bit, but altimately, she could let him go to school am/pm club. The other is plaster baby. 2 days a week. The cm closest to me, has said she'll only do term time. I could cover holidays I suppose, but thats not ideal tbh.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 04/03/2008 14:03

hiya ladies
mindee 1 at nursery
mindee 2 dropped at pre-school
ds also at pre-school

wow i'm all alone in the house!!!!!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 04/03/2008 14:04

apart from the dog who is shadowing my every move 'cause she want's to go for walkies!!

KaySamuels · 04/03/2008 14:19

OK turns out I a quiet hour, first littly went home early and secind littly not coming!

So I thought I would pop in and ask a quick WWYD...

mindee aged 14months, has just started walking and isn't very vocal. On drop off on Monday mum told me he had had a go on a potty and sat and wee'd on it! This is great and I kind of said wow but I really hope they (mum is staying with her mum at mo) don't want to start fully potty training him yet as he is no where near ready. How can I say so if they ask me?? Sitting a child on a potty and them happening to wee is a far reach from them being ready for potty training isn't it? Hopefully it won't come up but need to be prepared with my reaction if it does.

I'm alone too Vi it's weird isn't it - I never know what to do with myself!

LoveMyGirls · 04/03/2008 14:26

Question for those who look after/ have looked after light sleepers?

Newish mindee (approx 18mths still naps in the morning so wouldn't say she is ready for giving up her afternoon nap, though possibly could manage without morning one but mum says she has both at home)) has been coming 3 days per week for 3 weeks (not long I know) she is fine when i put her in the cot (initial cry lasts a min if that) she will happily sit/ lie in there chatting away playing with teddies when she does fall asleep the slightest noise wakes her up and she is chattering again, she has to share the room with my dd2 (who is a heavy sleeper and sleeps for about 2 hrs per day - i'm lucky i know) and an 8mth old baby who will sleep for about an hour then wakes for a cry and as soon as you go up he goes back off (with music and a stroke on the head for 2 mins) but the problem is she takes ages to go back off (probably about 20-30mins) she might sleep for about 10mins before a noise then shes awake again.

Any idea's or do I just need to stick with it until she settles into the routine? Even then though if she is a light sleeper time won't cure it will it? She even wakes if i peer round the door.

ROSEgarden · 04/03/2008 16:19

No real advice LMG, just that continuously doing the same thing, eventually im sure they will get used to the noise?..but if baby is light sleeper anyway, you cant make her sleep more so just try and play by ear?..sorry useless i know

well spent the day cleaning, washing then went for lunch at friends house, picked up dd and 3 mindees, one went home on way home as we pass her house and dad was in, mindee who finishes at 5.30 left at 4pm, mum finished early, so just my dd and her friend(still a mindee) from her class now, arguing over who will be scooby doo and who will be daphne blake!

bedding all washed, house clean, full up..nice day overall

KaySamuels · 04/03/2008 18:39

Would you take little mindee with chest infection? Has been to docs today and has some medicine. Is 13 months.

LMG - I have a light sleeper who I put in a seperate room for his naps. Some get used to the noise some don't. My ds was always a heavy sleeper too like your dd is - they have to be in a cm'ing house!!

vInTaGeVioLeT · 04/03/2008 19:26

kay i would take baby with chest infection you can always call mum to collect if too poorly and miserable

mindingmum · 04/03/2008 19:41

Hi Lovemygirls,

I have a mindee who used to have the same problem - sleep for 10 mins, slightest noise would wake him, difference being, he wouldn't go back off.

I started leaving the radio on on the landing and it worked a treat - he went to sleep listening to it, meaning house was't so quiet and therefore he was less aware of other noises

Could be worth a try

crace · 04/03/2008 19:50

Same here would be inclined to either separate them or use the radio as a "white noise".

KaySamuels · 04/03/2008 20:04

Thanks Vi had already told mum would have him as I am a yes person (usually as a cm not a good thing ), but then thought - what would everyone in the staffroom do?

crace · 04/03/2008 20:08

Kay, I would take him and just call mum if baby isn't feeling well
