Am I likely to find a CM willing to do just one day a week?

I'm considering looking for a CM to take DS (9 months) one day a week to give me a bit of quality time with DD as she's been a bit left out since he arrived. DS gets one-to-one time with me while DD is at nursery but she gets very little. Ideally I'd like him to go to a CM who has another child about his age as that's what DD had and she really benefitted from it.

Would that be feasible do you think?

I'm a cm'er and I care for a baby 8 mths old for 5 hrs a week so it is possible it's worth ringing round to find out if a cm'er local to you would do it hth

Thanks both of you. ROSEgarden, I'm in Teddington SW London so you would be a bit far, but thanks for the advice.

Mine does, she did a whole day with ds1 and now does a school day (8.30am - 3pm) with ds2

Hi fairyfay

Most cm's I know will take children for only one day (or as in my case i take them for half a day)

In my experience however the child takes longer to settle in (sometimes quite a while longer) than children going more regulary

It's a lovely idea though as i know how guilty you can feel trying to spread yourself equally between both children

Good luck with your search

Actually to avoid as much EYFS planning and observing as possible, next year i will only be taking on 1 dayers, casuals and occasionals

FairyFay · 03/03/2008 21:08

That's interesting mindingmum, I didn't realise that CMs took casuals and occasionals. That would suit me too.

Me too! I much prefer part timers. I like the fact that every day is different.

I only decided on this a month ago when i put some posters up advertising occasional and 'one off' minding and was swamped with calls and emails.

At the moment i mind 4 under 2 and a half on 3 days but am looking to ease off a bit as the start nursery

we'll see how it goes but i think there is a gap in the market

yep i do all part-timers - i like the variety - i also do half days - to be honest i think most childminders do this, you have to take the work where you can find it!!!
