To think about going back to childminding...

I was a childminder 8 yrs ago. Enjoyed it but was long hours and had my DD while childminding and went back to work when she was 2 weeks old, 40hrs a week, was hard. Then split with EXh and got job at a nursery.
I am now finding I dont enjoy the nursery, love the children but staff not so much.
My DD is 8 and I would struggle in holidays with childcare as only work term time but want to earn more too.
Wondering if I should go back. Like to do my own thing, have lots of room in my house and lots of experience.
Any advice please?

I'd definitely go back. The pay in nurseries is rubbish compared to childminding isn't it?

Go back to childminding but check how the market has changed in terms of parents working patterns. Try and do it more on your terms so you're not working all hours again.

Many people work from home a lot so can drop off later and pick up earlier meaning your opening hours can be shorter. Give yourself regular days off. As long as parents have notice, most would be fine. Do an early finish on Friday eg. 4pm.

I’d consider childminding in the holidays for children who are around your child’s age to see how you get on. I think there is a demand for this, sports camps are often short hours and my dc dislike them. I’d love a childminder who’d essentially take the kids to a decent park and let them play.
