Grandparent paying into childcare account

How can a grandparent contribute to the tax free childcare account? Do they need to be logged into the parent's account, or can they just use normal bank transfer to the account?

Normal bank transfer - just give them the details on the account.

Thanks. Will the parent still be able to have the tax refunded to her, whoever pays the money in?

It doesn't work like that. You pay in whatever you like e.g £80 and the gov top it up so you actually have £100 available to pay to your provider. If you need to withdraw money you can only withdraw the amount you've put in.

Thanks@Cakeandslippers . That makes sense now. I misunderstood where the government money came in.

It's so confusing isn't it, I've been using it for a few years now and I still get confused at times!

The government top it up into the tax free childcare account and then you pay your childcare bill directly from the childcare account. If you make a withdrawal from the childcare account you can only withdraw what has been paid in (so don't make the mistake of withdrawing to pay your childcare bill)!

*what you have paid in, that should have said
