11 year old summer holidays

My now 10 year old boy goes to a childcare nursery during the holidays with his 5 year old sister.
She loves it but he's not keen as he's the oldest there.

Next summer he doesn't want to go, and the year after he'll be in high school and won't be able to go.

As we work they usually go to grandparents 2 days a week and childcare 2 days and then we try take one day off and then another week or two over the summer.

I work from home so technically he could stay with me, but he's really distracting and then ends up just watching TV or getting bored so I'm wondering what everyone else does with their kids that are too young to be on their own but too old for childcare?

At 11 around here they either go to sports type clubs or stay home to be honest. If you work at home I'd definitely be going down the latter route. He's old enough to know not to bother you and honestly so what if he watches lots of TV during the holidays he must be bored put of his mind at a nursery.

The nursery is really good.
They go out all the time and do loads of activities he just doesn't like being older.. Next oldest is 8 I think.

But yeah staying home was my thoughts altho don't like the idea 🙈

There's loads of options around here for 11/12/13/14 year olds

Lots of sports/activity weeks.
There's a few different drama ones that run for a week or 2 each.
There's a music one that runs for one week.
My kids gymnastics run activity days - but only for their club

Or failing that pgl and activity places often do day spaces. Our activity centre does fab days with sailing and kayaking etc.

It's a completely different market to nurseries. If I was in your position here I'd have a good selection of ideas to keep busy over the summer.

Lots of 11 year olds won't want tk be on their own all day every day or would end up gaming/TV so I think it's great There's other activities. But accept they might not be in every area!

Just looked and the local art uni does some courses too for 8-15yr olds.

Wow it looks fab actually. Specific photography courses, fashion, video editing etc amd some are just 10+ or 12+.

Do you have an holiday camps that are aimed at slightly older children? Tennis? Football? Sailing?

We live in the backend if nowhere so there isn't much about around here.
Haven't found any clubs this year.. But hopefully next year!

Sports or tech based clubs are popular with older preteens around here. If he will be between years 6 & 7 next summer, his new secondary school may run some sort of summer school for new starters. Actually, our local secondary runs clubs ages 9-13 regardless of which school they normally go to. It's not great for most working parents as it tends to be a 10-3 type of day but if you are a bit flexible when WFH and can nip out to drop off / pick up it works ok.
