Oh I'm sure I've posted lots in the past about Ofsted Registration for Nannies
OCR voluntary Requirements - This is the main document produced by Ofsted. Below is my list of the key things your nanny will need to do/comply with.
Nannies (like Childminders and Nursery staff) should have a 12-hour Early Years First Aid course, typically this is done over 2 days... my last course was on two consecutive Saturdays. The course should be approved by Ofsted - St.Johns Early Years First Aid is suitable.
Ofsted phrase this as "appropriate First Aid qualification". Somewhere on either the Ofsted website, or the SureStart website, is details of what they consider a first aid course should cover. Found it... Criteria for First Aid Courses (MS Word document)
The nanny must not smoke, or consume or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while providing childcare.
Must have completed training in the core skills - so will need to have done some kind of childcare training course.
Must manage children's behaviour in a suitable manner.
Must have Public Liability Insurance
Must be suitable to work with children, Ofsted will do an Enhanced CRB check, annually.
With regard to your nannies current first aid course, it needs to be within the past 3 years. As it isn't likely to be a 12 hour course, it doesn't meet the criteria. But it may not be checked... so may be possible to use for initial registration, but must be updated at earliest convenience - as if Ofsted were to check, then there could be a problem.
I applied (online) to Ofsted on 1st August 2007 for nanny registration. Forms arrived and were sent back, and my registration certificate came through 17 September - so took under 7 weeks.
Once certificate is through, then the childcare voucher company will want a copy of it, and then set your nanny up as a payee... this can also take several weeks depending on the voucher provider.
In all, I'd suggest allowing 10 weeks for the process.
