Tax free childcare question

Hi I'm going back to work after maternity leave next month and DD will be going to a childminder.
We are eligible for tax free childcare but we are currently in the process of buying a house and our mortgage broker said we can't have any childcare commitments showing on our bank statements or payslips because it will affect what we can borrow.

Does tax free childcare show anywhere on your payslip or bank statement? If so we will have to apply after we have completed on the house.

Yes, it shows transactions from the bank account to the government account

Could we pay it from another account like my mums bank account or does it have to be our own bank account?

Erm, isn't not disclosing the expenditure to your lender fraudulent? I can't believe a broker has recommended you to do that...I'm fairly sure one of the questions from the lender too is always about whether you're expecting any material changes/extra expenditures in the near future and to answer no to that when you're about to start paying childcare costs you've not declared would be fraudulent.

@WeightoftheWorld we need somewhere to live thats what it boils down to. We're in a rented house and we have to move. I trust our broker 100%. As it stands at the minute we are not paying childcare and I haven't been asked about any changes coming up so I've not lied and neither has the broker.

You can pay into your tax free childcare from any account. Once you’ve got the reference you can set it up. We pay ours from mine and DH’s account. It’s shown as a transaction on the account. But yes, your mum could pay into it for you.

Can your mum afford to pay your childcare fees for several months? That's a fairly CF ask!

Newbuildtightwads · 05/08/2023 16:03

@KateyCuckoo we would pay her back. We can afford the childcare, we just can't afford to lose our current mortgage offer as it would go down to the point where we wouldn't be able to afford any house. We are already in a cheap area. Our childcare is only £450 per month and we are definitely not CF, we just need a roof over our heads!
